The Knock Back — Restaurant in Portland

Last night, I went to The Knock back with some friends to grab drinks. Typically I’ve enjoyed myself at this place but last night left me very unsettled. I was patiently waiting at the bar for a drink, the bartender even made eye contact with me and I smiled. A few moments later another guy came up to wait next to me. The bartender completely ignored me and asked the other guy what he wanted. The other guy immediately said, “he was here first,” and pointed at me. I even turned to him and thanked him for saying that. But the bartender continued to ignore me and asked the other guy again what he wanted. Other guy said AGAIN, he was first. But the bartender didn’t care, so the other guy just order his drink. The bar was not busy, it was just me and the other guy. I felt completely disregarded and disrespected. This has happened to me before but if it’s a crowded bar, sure it wouldn’t be a big deal but this was blatant. There so few places in Portland where someone of color can feel safe and last night proved that The Knock back is not one of those places. I will not...

We had been wanting to try this spot out for quite some time. Not only did it look like a great place to chill for drinks out by the patio with the firepit but also for their grill Cheeses that they are most known for. Not sure if it is the norm all of the time but they don't have table service. We ordered at the bar and picked up our food when it was ready. We were able to take advantage of the nice weather and eat outside on the patio. We tried the French Onion and the Veggie Sandwich with a burger patty on them. The grill they are able to get on the bread is awesome. Great crunch which added to the whole experience. They were flavorful and kept us craving the next bite. Awesome spot! I came here a few months ago and then went again last night and they have made some great improvements! I was very impressed! Their drink menu has much improved and they have done a lot with the place. The outdoor fire pit is really nice, I love the wire beasts in fire :) The outdoor ping-pong table with overhead outdoor heaters is also awesome. We did not order any food but I will be back and I will order food. All of our drinks were outstanding and I have high hopes that the food is also delicious. The servers were super personable and nice! This place has made such awesome improvements recently, I cant wait to go back! See you soon Knock Back....
