I was new to New Jersey style pizza, and although my preference leans towards other styles, Lombardo’s pizza is exceptional. We ordered a tomato pie, which has a lot of flop in the slice (I know some prefer this characteristic). I ate the tip of the triangle of each slice with a knife and fork, but my favorite part was when I could pick up the remaining portion of the slice and eat it with my hands. The tomato sauce absolutely sings with a complex flavor. If it were ever sold separately, I would definitely stock up on bottles.
They are using high quality cheese, which nicely balances the flavor of the sauce. The crust is tasty and on the softer side and it’s clear that they spent a lot of time getting their recipe just right. This pizza is worth a journey from different corners of Portland, and I could see it becoming very popular once they get more established. We also tried their chocolate chip cookies, which were delicious and had soft centers and crisp edges.
The staff was very friendly and they are a great addition to the neighborhood. Considering their recent opening, the outdoor seating options remain limited to a few benches. When the weather cools down, I look forward to having a pizza outdoors on one of those benches. I can’t recall what their current beverage offerings are as I got my pizza to go, but their website hints at future...
Read moreThis is a relatively new pizzeria (opened in 2023 I believe), but the owner is a pizza guy from way back and is a legit New Jersey guy. Super-nice fellow, who is focused on making the best quality pie he can. We had the tomato pie and the ricotta and red onion pie - both were fantastic! That tomato pie, with the wonderful sauce on top of the cheese, really sings ! I can't say enough about it.
He's still in the startup phase I'd say, because there's not much to the place just yet - it's a large open space with the Blodgett pizza ovens and prep area towards the back of the room and a counter with some shelves and cold-cases near the door. Sales are pretty much online only, though the website says you can order at the counter if the online ordering system is down. Hopefully with good sales he can build it up from here. There are a few picnic tables under a shade structure out front, so when the weather gets better it would be nice to enjoy the...

Whenever I'm here, there are people that have literally traveled from Lake Oswego, Tigard, and even further out, all converging on a little former-drycleaner-turned-pizza-joint to experience the best pizza Portland has to offer. Sure, you could wait an hour or two with a bunch of thirty/fortysomething hipsters at Apizza Scholls, you could get seated, spend way too much on a stupid half-baked crust with a single tomato and a glop of cheese, and you might even be able to convince yourself that you're cool while doing so, OR you could just experience the best, tastiest pizza Portland has to offer.
Are you hungry? Or are you starving for hipster...
