McMenamins Mall 205 — Restaurant in Portland

I just went here about two hours ago! I went in 40 min before closing, I just got out of hospital and I was tired and hungry and really didn’t want to go to Denny’s. My boyfriend and I decided to try it out and it was our first time there, we seated ourself like the sign said took 5 min for the server (Jessica H) to bring us menus, she got our drink order and ask if we were ready to order and I asked her if they had soup or pasta and she very rudely said no, so I told her I need a minute and she walked away as I was talking to her. My boyfriend and I looked at each other, we both work at restaurant and know what customers service is and obviously she didn’t. When she came back I asked her about what was in the rice bowl and she’s like oh you can read it there with an attitude and I asked her again and she just kept saying it says it right there! and again I was tired and in pain so I was really not understanding the menu, so I order my dish which was spicy but I didn’t know because she didn’t want to answer my questions, and I can not eat spicy food! She only came to our table to get our order and bring us our food, but when she took our order I wasn’t even done ordering and she walked away! While we were there another table was there and we notice how nice Jessica was being to them, I am not sure if it’s because they were white and we were Hispanic or because they were older and we were young, really not sure! But we were just extra annoyed by how she was only being rude to us! The food was good but the service was not! My boyfriend made me promise him as we were still there not to come back there! I wanted to leave but I just wanted to eat and get home after a long day! Jessica, only people who give good service get tip, and that is why you didn’t get tip! I am Very disappointed! We literally finish eating at closing time, 1:00! So it wasn’t like we were keeping her from going home on time either! I honestly can’t understand why she was...

I truly love Mcmenamins and I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad experience at any other location. The vibe at this location , at least on the day I was there was very negative. The server at the bar was unpleasant and so rude . It seemed as if we were a bother to her . After she was rude to me not with anything in particular she said but her body language was definitely telling me I was not welcome . So I asked her if she was okay ? She got flustered and walked away so the manager was now in charge of serving my friend and I . The bad body language continued from her and I even offered an explanation for my frustration to the previous server. It was the worst service I had ever received, I don’t think I saw any server break a smile and there must have been some bad vibe floating around that bar , it was such a bad experience from start to finish. Went there for an early lunch since we had been on the go since very early in the morning - with no breakfast. We were seated very quickly, drinks also followed quickly, especially since we were told things would be a bit slow, since there was an unexpected staffing problem, which was in the process of remediation. The food came unexpectedly quickly, and the staff even split our order for us (which we had only mentioned to our server). The gardenburger, side salads, and fries were all very well prepared (not a McMenamins problem, but some restaurants find it difficult to properly prepare vegetarian or vegan dishes - an issue that is not present here). It's too bad we waited so long to visit this venue again. Last time we were here there was a Newport Bay next door, so it's been a while, but we will most assuredly be returning.
