Never been here before. It's a cool little breakfast place with a creative selection of breakfast foods including bagels. Staff was nice, but felt rushed. Only real complaint is the price. Got a Bob Dylan breakfast burrito add spinach & latke and it was over $18 alone. Average Joe's can't afford that, although it was a good burrito. Also, no eating is allowed inside and it was raining outside so -1 star for having to eat in the rain. EDIT (Originally 3 star) Response to Mr. Bagel Thank you for cleverly veiled condescending response to my average review of your establishment. My expectations weren't very high seeing as you're in a run down building on the side of Forest Ave in Portland. I did realize the price of the item I purchased, it was clearly marked on your menu. I never disputed that. I did dispute your overall cost of the item. Even if your food cost is 25% and it was $4 in my estimation to make it that means you would charge $16 for that. $18 is just a mark up you have for inflation/operating costs etc. I have been to many other area establishments who have manged to keep their costs from trickling down to their customers. Which means that's a lot for a single burrito regardless. I never stated or implied that the cost was beyond my means either. I said for the average joe it's too much. You making assumptions about my appearance and looking ignorant for stereotyping me as the average customer that clearly you don't want in your place is your poorly chosen viewpoint. Instead of making the same old claims about how you used to win awards you should consider how it was a 3 star review and that was an opportunity to win a new customer. Instead, you've decided to be passive aggressive and insulting to someone who isn't visiting in Portland. I'm a Portland resident and have been for years. Clearly the only fluke of perception here is that you're a reputable owner operator who cares for the local average person.

Attached is the first message that I then edited: "I tried to order a bagel and there were raccoons all over the store...I asked the owner about it and he proudly said that they work there. I mean I'm all for an equal opportunity workplace but can we stick to humans please?! Anyway, I get my bagel and cream cheese from a large raccoon who was hissing at me..all of a sudden the owner jumps from behind the counter dressed like a night elf and tried to cast a spell on me! I dropped my bagel and ran, careful if you go here people!" Wow, first of all thanks so much for the award! I took the liberty of making a certificate to stick on the resume 😁 I raised my rating, you're right I'm sorry. Who am I judge if you use live raccoons (four of them on each other's shoulders in a trenchcoat) to make bagels or practice dark bagel magic.. let's just agree to disagree. Great bagels, raccoons and wizard spell casting were a little bit to get used to but if it works it works! Have a blessed day brother, luv yuh! ❤️

I drive by this place every morning, and today, I made the decision to stop by and check it out for breakfast. I was not disappointed! This place had lots of great options for bagels, breakfast burritos, and iced/hot coffee. The bagels were fresh, and the service was great. Everyone was really friendly and I didn't wait long at all. Great bagels, and I will be back to try some breakfast burritos soon!

Update: So my review below still stands, but my rating needs to be lowered in response to the owner's response...the fact that you don't care about customer service is a problem in itself. Everything you replied with says more about you than it does about me and just how much you value your customers.

first review: To be honest, when I would read reviews in the past, I never paid attention to the "bad service" ones. Mostly because I only cared about how the food tasted. However, the service at this place made eating the sandwich a less enjoyable experience. The man who took my phone order was extremely rude for no reason. At the end of the conversation he stated that the order would be done in 10 minutes. So we show up about 3-5 minutes early just to pay for the order and to let them know we were there for when the order was done. We were also in a hurry so the sooner the better. So as soon as we state the name of the order, the same man who was rude on the phone says to the cashier with so much sass, "I told them on the phone, 10 minutes". Then walked to the back of the restaurant. Just because we were there early doesn't mean we expected the sandwich to be done. It was so unnecessary and I said in front of the cashier that he was rude on the phone and rude now and she decided to ignore me. So I will not be returning to this location. Just because you wake up on the wrong side of the bed doesn't mean you have to ruin everyone...

Food 2/5 Service 1/5 Atmosphere 1/5 - It’s a bunch of high schoolers/college students working here who do not stop chit chatting with each other. They all keep asking everyone to repeat their orders 2-3 times after they order it because they can’t remember what they ordered due to all the side conversation. I’ve worked in food service for years now, and chatting with your co workers if fine if you can still do you job. Yet they still got my order wrong. The wrap on my burrito was wrong and so was the cream cheese on the bagel. Unfortunately I was in a rush and couldn’t have it re-made. I’m not sure how it was wrong considering I had to repeat my order twice. The bagel was very mediocre. They have a new guy making bagels, and it’s easy to tell. One of the staff went “oh your bagels look good today”. I’m concerned to see what they look like/taste like on a bad day. This location is very unorganized and unprofessional and the food is very subpar. If you want to go to an amazing, delicious Mr. Bagel with super friendly and professional staff, go to the...
