Woodford Food & Beverage — Restaurant in Portland

My family and I ate here this evening and I’m uncertain as to what the interest is in this restaurant. The service was standard and we kept having different people bring our beverages, take our order and bring our food so it seemed very disjointed. My niece ordered the shrimp cocktail and deviled eggs as an appetizer and people were pleased with those. The shrimp were very large, which was nice. The deviled eggs were standard fare.

I ordered the steak and I asked if I could have potatoes with my steak as opposed to the fries and the waitress went and asked the kitchen staff and came back and said they refused my request. I can honestly say in the 50 plus years I have been dining out, this was the very first time I have been refused the option of switching from french fries to regular potatoes. Since there are only 5 entrees on the dinner menu to choose from and nothing else interested me, I didn’t even bother placing an order. My husband ordered the steak and fries and his steak had quite a bit of gristle in it and was tough, so I didn’t miss much. My sister had the crab cakes and she didn’t really care for her meal either. They weren’t cooked enough and the remoulade had an unusual flavor. Another person had chicken and felt that the chicken was dried out. Overall we felt that our meal was rather unremarkable and I will not eat there again nor would I recommend it to others. I really appreciate this place. People are super friendly, you can really taste the quality of the food. Quality and concept 100% perf Conception is at 90% You can tell they put a lot of energy into making this high quality food from fresh ingredients. Most of what I ate was superb. A few dishes didn't quite come together as well as they might have but considering they change their menu so often it's understandable that not everything gets to get fine tuned everytime. Deviled eggs where phenomenal, I've had their kimchi ones as well as horseradish and bacon. They give 6 halves which is a big serving ! The flavors really came through so well. Mac and cheese was really good! True test was that it still tasted great the next day! It's not a creamy mac and cheese, it's feels home made but with top notch ingredients. Beet salad was ok, there were great big pieces of beets, all the ingredients were fresh, the dressing was super tasty! But it didn't really feel like it came together, the escarole was a raw, so too bitter to be served in such big chunks. Shredded or cooked would have brought it a better flavor. The beets also lacked flavor and some were a little undercooked. But i enjoyed the citrus for pops of sweetness! 1/2 chicken was very tasty. I was extremely disappointed by the hostility and condescending tone I received from who I believe is likely the manager of this restaurant. It was my bachelorette weekend when I booked a table for 6 people about 1 hour prior - There were several openings. We then ended up finding another closer restaurant who could accomodate 6 people for walk-in. By the time I had remembered to cancel my reservation at Woodford it was 1 minute until my reservation time. I then received a $150 charge from them the following day due to my late cancellation. When looking back at their cancellation policy on Resy they charge $25 PER PERSON FOR ANY CANCELLATION, regardless of the timeframe between booking and cancelling. I've never seen such a strict policy. I called the restaurant directly in hopes that they would drop the charge. I apologized several times for my late cancellation but was told that I caused their business to lose out on business that night, that due to my negligence they would be standing behind their cancellation policy. The (assumed) manager even thanked me for choosing them as a "second choice". I found him to be extremely condescending and downright mean to me. I had to abruptly end the call because we were talking in circles and he refused to bend on his policy. While I do hope they will still reconsider charging me this fee, I do not anticipate receiving my $150 back after such a hostile...
