Rangoon Bistro is an absolute standout in Portland's vibrant food scene, offering a unique and delicious take on Burmese cuisine. My visit left me completely impressed, and I can't wait to go back. Here's why this place deserves all the buzz it's been getting.
Mushroom Noodles The Mushroom Noodles were an instant favorite. The dish strikes a perfect balance of earthy, umami flavors with a delicate texture. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the mushrooms brought a satisfying depth to every bite. A hint of garlic and fresh herbs added layers of flavor that made this dish unforgettable.
The Big Dumplings True to their name, The Big Dumplings are hearty and satisfying. These handcrafted parcels are filled with a deliciously seasoned mix of ingredients that are both flavorful and comforting. The skin is tender yet firm enough to hold the filling, and they come with a tangy dipping sauce that elevates every bite.
Lahpet Salad If you're new to Burmese cuisine, the Lahpet Salad is a must-try. This traditional tea leaf salad is a textural and flavor adventure-crunchy nuts, tangy pickled tea leaves, and fresh vegetables all combine to create a dish that's vibrant and refreshing. It's the perfect palate cleanser or starter to share.
Pork Noodles The Pork Noodles were another highlight. The tender, slow-cooked pork melts in your mouth, while the noodles soak up a rich, savory sauce that's absolutely addictive. The subtle spice and the sprinkling of fresh herbs added a nice kick, making it a deeply satisfying and well-rounded dish.
Rangoon Bistro delivers an exceptional dining experience that showcases the best of Burmese flavors with a creative, modern twist. Whether you're a seasoned fan of this cuisine or trying it for the first time, this restaurant will leave you delighted and craving more. Highly...
Read moreI would definitely give this place a 4.7. The atmosphere was comfortable and the staff was so kind and helpful. You could feel the sense of pride they take in their restaurant and food and it shows through in their delicious food. We have the Khao Pyan Sane (Very large pork dumpling), Chana Aloo (Fried Potatoes and Burmese Fritters), the 1/4 Fried Chicken, and the Mushroom Noodles. Everything was so delicious and the sauces that they paired with each dish really elevated the whole experience. I have to say that the crispy potatoes were literally perfection. Everything I strive for but can never achieve when I myself try to make crispy potatoes. The Fritters were a surprise! They had the texture of falafel but they were moist and the flavor profile was fresh and bright, especially when paired with the dipping sauce. The Dumpling was by far my favorite dish we tried. The sauce was to die for and the filling was so tasty and well seasoned. I really don’t love pork so for me to be all in on this is a big deal! The mushroom noodles were fantastic. The noodle was delicious and comforting and the mushrooms were marinated and tangy with the bok choy giving a wonderful freshness that I really enjoyed. The fried chicken was so well balanced. The seasoning is chefs kiss. I could have eaten the whole chicken and paired with the tamarind sauce it was heaven!! The coconut rice was by far the best coconut rice I have ever eaten. It was so well balanced with the fresh coconut hit on first bite and then the familiar creaminess that is so comforting. It paired so well with the chicken! We will definitely be returning to the Ragoon Bistro to try more...
Read moreRangoon Bistro serves up uniquely different Burmese inspired food with a cozy vibed atmosphere . The open kitchen with bar-style seating at the counter was the perfect choice for our initial foray to the Rangoon Bistro. Seated at the counter , we met Mack , preparing chickpea flour. Interacting with Mack , as our food guide, was so helpful in deciding which dishes to order. Everything on the menu sounded great, but we eventually settled on 4 dishes to sample..... the Tofu Thoke , the Lahpet Thoke salad , the Si Chet Khao and the Kyet Thar Kyaw. First up was the Lahpet Thoke salad containing tea leaves. Wow, What an interesting combo of flavors. While the strong use of fish sauce made it a wee bit too salty for my taste , the freshness of the greens combined with the crunch of peanuts, fried dal and fried Fava beans gave this salad a tantalizing contrast of flavors and textures. The marinated fried chicken 🍗 was delicious. The coconut rice was the perfect accompaniment to this tasty dish. The pork noodles were up next. The roast pork was supremely tender. The tamari fried garlic just added another layer to the perfectly cooked wheat noodles. Lastly, our favorite , the huge Khao Pyan Sane dumpling ....... a monster pork and cabbage dumpling bathed in a tasty soy / vinegar sauce was off the charts ! Wow. Service was excellent, and meeting Alex , the owner topped off a different and delicious dining experience. Handicap ♿️ doable and recommended Prices were very reasonable. ( see attached menu pic ). Final take, highly recommended. We're looking forward to a return visit to try more dishes at...
