Portland: A Must-Try Thai Food Destination

Portland: A Must-Try Thai Food Destination

Thai Avenue is so good!! While they offer all the classic Thai dishes you'd expect, their curries and appetizers are standout choices. But let me tell you about their Khao Soi – this dish that will change your (culinary) life. Seriously, it's one of the best Thai dishes I've ever tasted. It was so good that I forgot to take a photo! 😓 We've ordered delivery from Thai Avenue a few times before, but dining in was a great experience because we got to meet the owner, Viyada. We got to chat with her a little and learning about her journey, including the closure of her previous establishment in NW Portland due to COVID and starting fresh, post COVID lockdowns, in SE Portland, was so inspiring. Thai Avenue has only been open for about 7 months, and it's baffling to me that they're not constantly packed. Their menu is exceptional!! Itsy disheartening to think that such a gem is seemingly going unnoticed in Portland. So that's why I had to write this review—Viyada's passion for food and the exceptional flavors she brings to the table deserve all the recognition and support from the PDX community! I hope to see Thai Avenue flourishing in Foster Powell for many years to come ❤️

Stopped here today for the first time. The food here is amazing and there is lots of it. I'm not a knowledgeable connoisseur of Thai foods, but I've had a lot of different Pad Thai dishes over the years. I have to say that this was one of the best I've ever had. Lyn had a plate of Pad Cashew Nut which she loved. We also had some appetizers: Pot stickers, coconut prawns, and cream cheese wontons which were all terrific. The food is first class, as is the presentation and the very friendly service. Prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back here. Right now I cannot think of another Thai restaurant in the Portland area as good as this one.

My first experience here was in late July 2023 during opening week. I knew fairly quickly that this place was gonna be one of my local spots to eat. My Partner and I worked a long day and wanted something easy to eat. We saw Thai Avenue was closing for the night soon, so we opted to get take out and eat it outside. The service was quick, the food was hot and delicious. Couldn't ask for anything more. Both of us being a fan of spicing food, we got the Pad Kee Mao and Pad See Ew high heat, and Two Thai Teas one with coconut milk (they were more than happy to oblige). We came back again Early September. This time getting a Pad Ka Prow, and a Crab Fried Rice. Service again was quick! And the portions were great and the food tasted amazing! Cleaned the plate because it was that good! and let me tell you the portions were huge. I can only recommend this restaurant and hope they continue to do well! We...

These folks need to be appreciated!

They use gluten-free soy sauce in their dishes so many are safe for GF needs unless other gluten ingredients are on the dish. My wheat sensitive (not celiac) Mama looooved having great authentic Esan style Thai food without needing to worry about a gluten reaction.

Our Pad See Ew was perfect with that delightful wok char and the green curry was deliciously spiced and complex. The pad Thai was a massive portion and the shrimp was perfectly tender with a great balance of sweet, savory and tangy. The online ordering system works great and the owners are super sweet. You can customize almost every dish with proteins, spice level, and sometimes more. White rice is even included in the price of curries for free!

We were shocked to see the place completely empty on a Saturday evening when the food was so incredible. They're pretty new and I'd really love to see...
