First time to Rose VL Deli after seeing it on every food list ever about Portland. What else is there to say? This place is straight fire! I live just up the street from it but work in Tualatin during the week, so the only days I can go are either Saturday or Sunday. Finally decided to pop in on a mild Portland Saturday at around 1 PM. There were people still waiting outside for lunch so you know it's going to be good. Put my name on the list and began anxiously waiting. Eater Portland recommended the cao lau which is one their featured soups on Saturday. They had a menu outside which showed what they were sold out of. A waiter would come out to call names and also provide an update if something sold out. Sure enough, while we were waiting they ran out of their other Saturday soup which was a turmeric soup (it looked amazing), much to the dismay of a family of seven, four of whom were annoying kids that did as they please. They left...darn. I was only there for the cao lau (* please don't run out, please don't run out). They called our name and we were seated. The waiter was like "Well, all we have is the cao lau. Is that all right?". "Yup, that's what we're here for!". He also came back and said that they had a couple of bowls left of the turmeric soup if we were interested, which was a nice gesture. 5-10 minutes later they brought out this foreign bowl of goodness with meats, lettuce, peanuts, crackers, and noodles with a cup of broth and condiments on the side. As a first time diner, I didn't quite know how to attack this meal so I asked the waiter how he liked to do it. He explained and we dug in. What I ate can only be described as a flavor explosion. There were so many complex flavors and ingredients that I had never tried before. It was a good amount of food, but I inhaled it. It healed my soul. I can only imagine how good their other soups are. The staff genuinely asked what we thought of everything. Bruh, you know it was delicious. You can tell they take pride in their food. Thanks and great job...
Read moreMake sure you find the menu and check what they are selling for the day. They will usually have 2 kinds of noodles they serve with different broth and topping. . What brought me here was, I wanted to come here and try the curry chicken vietnamese pho style, but they only serve that on Fri and Sat. . They have family restaurants a total of 3 or 4, but only this location open on Monday. . When I walked in around 3, they had 2 options of pho. I chose the pho ga which is chicken noodle soup. . Pho broth is savory, clean, comforting, and flavorful. My white friends 🧡 doesn't understand why it is good when I told them. So they watched me eat. And then they finally had a sip of the broth they were like wow. It's good chicken broth and my second favorite I have taste. My all time favorite is still in Sacramento ca, pho anh dao for chicken pho. . Price was 16.50 for the pho which is high. The quality of the bowl of soup and noodles really made up for it. During the whole trip I needed something comforting, I was missing my soups and asian eats. . Overall it was casual restaurant for a lone eating experience. There is a nice parking lot with free parking. Hope this review helps and let me know what you like or I missed out on while in portland. Thanks for reading. Have a...
Read moreOh. My. GOODNESS. My boyfriend and I always pass by this place and decided to come in to try the food. BEST DECISION EVER. First of all, the atmosphere of this small restaurant feels like i’m eating at my ong ba noi’s house (grandparents). Hanh and Steve welcomed us with warm smiles and kindness into their restaurant. We ordered the Wonton Noodle soup and the Ca Ri Ga( chicken curry) soup. The broth for the Wonton Soup was DELICIOUS. Nice clear, and flavorful hot broth. The noodles were prepared perfectly, had the perfect bite to them. Comes with a side of lettuce and bean sprouts. The whole thing was so good, I was literally INHALING these noodles and asked for another bowl of noodles. They gave me noodles in the broth and I was so surprised. Their service is none that i’ve ever received before.
My boyfriend had the Ca Ri Ga and he was blown away by how tasty it was. It came with a baguette on the side to dip in the curry. I tried it as well and I will say that their food is AUTHENTIC. It felt like eating my family’s Vietnamese food. Blown away. I’m so glad we found this place for REAL authentic, fresh Vietnamese cuisine. We are planning on going back tomorrow for their Bun Rieu...
