The High Dive — Restaurant in Portland

Have been here a few times as we've recently moved close to this spot. While it's comfortable enough for a casual meet-up with friends, the service has been hostile as hell half the time I've seen them interact with customers. Like Kitchen Nightmares-level stuff. They are always in a really bad mood. I think the most prominent example was when a customer had apparently not tipped on a drink, she brought it out to him and very aggressively yelled in front of the crowded outdoor area "HERE YOU GO, AND DON'T MIND LEAVING A TIP NEXT TIME WE'D APPRECIATE IT" (Don't feel bad for her at all, by the way. I was back in line later and overheard her go "WOW is this for me?" to someone who had apparently left a massive tip for her to make up for it). I mean, I always tip, as do most people in this city, but you can't ever, ever, ever say something like that...

Don't let the 4's dissuade you from coming here. If you are in a very small group or looking for a prefunk drink before a night on the town this place is perfect. Good little tap list and old school bar service. Just don't be that person standing in line and then still deciding when it's your turn. It's bad form and the bartender will let you know in their own way. They do not serve food but they allow food in from the food carts or to be delivered there. Again...a perfect five for me for a bar means it's for every occasion and this place just isn't it and they don't want to be. That's why I love it. Every single neighborhood should have a bar like this. Simple. Honest....

Love the high dive. It’s a perfect place to grab a drink in the evening with the sun setting in front of the outside patio. They’ve got a great range of drinks but the frozen margarita is so good I’ve never ordered anything else (why would I, it’s never a bad choice). A huge selling point for me is that The High Dive allows patrons to bring in food from the nearby food carts on SE Hawthorne. This place always has a good atmosphere and is filled with people unwinding, the staff are friendly and easy...
