The Get Down Music Venue — Attraction in Portland

Someone has to say something.....I feel bad but I’ll do it. I was at the soft opening last week and Mark Farina tonight. The sound has NOT been good. Tonight, the music was so bad people were leaving AND talking about how horrible it was. If you are in love with saxophone, this is the place for you. Its sounds like the beginning of SNL. It’s very rare for me to leave a show early. It’s gotta be pretty bad. I couldn’t even get my friends to stay. The drinks? Expect too much sweet and sour. Every time. It’s how they make it. The drinks are mediocre at best. Staff has been generally cool. I feel like it’s worth mentioning this is a super lefty leaning club. Colorado big game wook hunter would have a field day here. If you’re not totally down with that... my advice is to go somewhere else. There’s one more thing that I won’t mention here but I promise, if you go there, you will know what I left out of this review. Sorry get down, I really want to like this place but I likely won’t return.

Also last week was an invite only event. Tonight was the first night the public was allowed in. Somehow they had a five star rating and they weren’t even open yet 🤔 The reviews previous to this one were obviously written by biased friends of the employees/owner. Amazing venue with great vibes! I was here recently to watch The Narcissist Cookbook and Bug Hunter live, and enjoyed it a lot. All of the employees were very friendly and willing to help. I wanted to shout out two employees specifically; one is Connor, the other, I never got their name. They were security maybe; tall, dark hair. (He helped me find a place to charge my phone, and put in extra effort to figure out why the outlet wasn't working at first.)

Connor, the bartender, was lovely and absolutely patient. I had the harebrained idea to get one of the performers a couple of chocolate bars. But I forgot to write a note with them. After some searching the venue, I asked Connor who immediately provided me a pen and a slip of paper. Later, he found me a rubber band to put everything together without me even asking; just noticed I was having trouble and took action. Plus, he makes some killer drinks, and is fantastic at giving drink recommendations!

Overall, wonderful experience. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the venue didn't fill out the necessary paperwork for an all ages show, and the musicians - and as such the fans - didn't find out until fairly last minute the night before. To their credit, the owner promised to refund tickets and said they would try their best to aid anyone who had unrefundable travel expenses; it was a mistake but...

I will start this off by saying what I love about this venue as it has some aspects that it does extremely well. The crowd every time I have showed up has been fantastic and is never too crowded. I feel like I always have space to dance and move around the venue with east which is greatly appreciate. The other great positive is the type of music that is is constantly being brought to this venue. It’s my exact ideal type of music and many of my favourite artists which then brings to my first major dislike and why I am giving 3 stars is the sound quality and acoustics of this venue at the moment are terrible and makes it incredibly hard to enjoy the music that I came to the venue to enjoy. For a business that completely revolves around sound you would imagine it would put more focus on its sound quality and acoustics to provide the best experience it can. I have been coming here quite often since it has opened and have been hoping they would fix this issue but I keep showing up disappointed and frustrated my favourite artists have to perform with such low quality sound. Please fix this and I this venue would be an easy 5 star in opinion. Last thing that would be nice would be some transparency into set times or at the bare minimum letting us know when the show ends. Sucks going out and thinking the show is probably going to 2 and ends up...
