This place is great. Really solid burger and fries: the burger comes with crispy onions, cheese, and some kind of delicious dressing on a potato bun, which doesn't fall apart and is - yes - delicious. The fries are thin and crispy. They also have spiced popcorn, a curry turmeric bowl of awesomeness that is one of the best apps you can get in a bar. Enormous selection of whisky in all of its permutations (bourbon, rye, regional, international), with the option to start a "whiskey card" where you keep track of all the ones you've tried and if you try them all you get a prize. As a tequila drinker I went for their Altos Añejo, which was excellent. My friends all went for the Old Fashioned, which was also made very well and was very tasty. Tonight wasn't too busy, so it was super chill. Sometimes it can get really packed. It's a smaller spot with a couple of booths and booth seating along the perimeter, and tables scattered around the middle. Patio seating out front, so it's pleasant in the warmer months. The bartenders and servers are generally not jerks. Order at the bar, pay at the bar. The only table service is when they bring out your food. A solid neighborhood spot for very good bar food and very...
Read moreEdit: Taking down to one star. A representative of the restaurant contacted me by email after they read my review making this offer, "we want to make it right for your party." After responding in the affirmative, I never heard back. I reached back out a week later regarding their offer. Two weeks later now no response. This place doesn't do what they say.
I've lived in the neighborhood four years and tonight was my fourth and last visit. Went with neighbors who swear this place is good but each time I've visited the Old Gold it misses the mark on food, value, and service. I don't mind paying $16 for a burger but here I do. Also tried the chicken banh mi and there was barely any chicken. The ingredients are quality but there's barely any of those ingredients on the plate. Nice cocktail selection but having to order at the bar and get almost no rapport from the bartender felt like, what am I doing here in this place. The regulars we went with with were quite disappointed that the french fries had changed and were no longer the thin crispy fries of days gone by. Consistency is everything. Low energy, low quality,...
Read moreI was a fan of Old Gold but there is a bartender there now that is absolutely horrible and needs to be called out for his behavior. Our company and its employees spends thousands a year there with its proximity to our offices. We met there for a farewell happy hour after work on a Tuesday for one of our senior leaders. There were approximately 40+ people in the bar drinking and there was food purchased for the gathering all there were fellow employees but 4 patrons. The recipient was thanking those for coming and the bartender got offended and turned the music up and down rapidly as he was speaking and angrily yelled, "hey this isn't a private party wrap it up!" Keep in ming we were all there for that one purpose, we leave and there are 4 people in the bar. The Final tab with 40+ people drinking and food had to be in substantial, so their checks that afternoon were because of us. We were all stunned, If I had it my way not a tip would have hit that bar that day. Needless to say I won't be back and have been spreading the word to my co workers to not patronize Old Gold and opt for the...
