This is an interesting bar in a part of town that's been newly gentrified (ahem..."urban renewal", aka all the buildings near it are monolithic blocks with retail at street level). The space is nice and large, but there's not quite enough seating to fill it. A pool table and Big Buck Hunter are practically crammed into one corner (pool and video game players have to jostle for space with each other and with people at the tables nearby) while the other side has a few high tables with chairs in a sea of open space. There's a shuffleboard table along one wall with two pinball machines in the back corner, and a narrow patio out the back door. The overall ambience is typical Portland dark bar, with unidentifiable rockish/punkish music playing at a volume that you just barely need to shout over to be heard by the person sitting next to you. The staff are surprisingly friendly and attentive for being as pretty as they are. The beer list is as long as it should be for a bar in this city, and there is a fully stocked bar for cocktails and mixed drinks. The food menu has a fair amount of variety, with plenty of snacks and larger plates to have a full meal. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious. It came with a small bag of potato chips and a pickle. I saw many people ordering nachos which were piled high enough to share. The crowd, at least early on a Saturday night, was young-ish, pretty, and generally dressed as...
Read moreAfter an amazing meal at Andina (I highly recommend this establishment) to celebrate my wife's birthday, we had a group of friends join us at Vendetta for a drink on Friday, June 8. Thinking it was a nice evening, we decided to sit at their patio. First, the bench on the picnic table was broken, but that happens so no big deal. What really ruined the experience was the awful service from the staff. The male bartender was extremely rude to multiple friends, all of whom were very polite and professional. One friend asked for a whiskey ginger, light on the ginger (not asking for extra whiskey, just a little less of a mixer). The bartender replied, "You'll get the drink how I pour it." Another friend asked for a drink (a chocolate cake I believe), and the same bar tender refused to make it. A third friend asked for a beer, and the same bar tender responded with "Whatever..." The last straw was when the bartender told a friend who was not drinking (designated driver), but ordering a round for the group that he wouldn't serve him because he thought he had too much. Ummmm... he hadn't had a drop. This guy was on a power trip for some odd reason. All in all, we spent about 15 minutes there, and decided to leave because this bartender was so rude. It's a shame too because the patio is decent and the location is...
Read moreIf you want a growler filled go somewhere else! I just got home and checked the fill. I got shafted at least half a beer. Not to mention I paid $13 for a growler of Rainier. Let's do some math- from much experience I know the price of a pint of Rainier here is $3. Today they happened to be running a special for $1.75 a pint. There are 4 pints in a growler. So even normal beer price it should only be $12. It's an extra dollar, whatever. I like the place and I was in a hurry. So you already get charged an extra dollar for what should be the same price, if not cheaper. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE ADVERTISING A DEAL. Good thing my other growler isn't glass because I don't want to know how much I got shafted on the more expensive one. Vendetta has been my go to spot for three years now and I'm not sure I'll ever be going back.
Update: After a quick and thoughtful response from the owner, he has made the situation right by me. I guess my protest ban didn't last long. Awesome...
