Hello mates. I am Admiral Kong from the sailing vessel Khaleesi. I had the pleasure to go on a road trip with my partner who is a K-9 trainer and a great friend to both humans, dogs and the staff of the Wooden Chicken on Sandy. We were excited for the road trip as the Wooden Chicken was recommended for being a great place with great eats by a Portland Police officer. So, on 2-23-2019 after running an errand, the three of us pulled in and parked at 11:45am with anticipation of my partner and friend going for a great lunch. This would be a first for all three of us to visit the Wooden Chicken. My partner, and our friend were hungry and had smiles as were heading for the front door. Keep in mind as a quadruped Service K-9, that I was hooked to my partner on his lift side and followed protocol as we walked in the front door. My partner noticed to the back of the room as we entered, there were 3 tall tables with chairs on each side and three tables with no customers at any of them. We all three headed that way. As we got there it was clear that now it is wide open for me to follow protocol by laying in my directed spot pointed out by my partner. As we made it to the table and I started to lay in my place, we were met by the server. Both my partner and friend did not have time to sit down. There was no hello, welcome or smile by the server, just her first questions with a strong tone in her voice. She was questioning me? Her first question was, “is he a service dog”? (hint: she can see my vest). “What service does he do?”, (with a sharp tone she asked)? (hint: they are not to ask this question or have the K-9 prove any actions but we were happy to explain). My partner said, “please let me explain and use this as a teaching moment”. Her reply was “I will get the manager”. The manager was quick to respond and asked the same questions that I happen to know are protected by Federal law and the HEPPA act on Service and Therapy dogs, but we were happy to explain again. He then said “that all Services and Therapy Dogs are not card carrying or have a number to their name” (I got the impression from the Manager that all Service and Therapy dogs are only an eminence front to put on). He said he had done all his homework, and that I was not welcome. My partner, friend and I, supported the management by leaving with a smile in a forthwith manor. The three of us would love to give a review of the great eats at the Wooden Chicken however, the over view of this road trip was that I was profiled and 86ed. Ironically, I have been in most hospitals in the North West many times. Worked with young adults from 18 to 26 years old with mental health issues and most importantly my time spent with Alzheimer’s resident’s. Still Ironic, I have never ben 86th in my career of 6 years. I can say that the Portland Grill treated me with the upmost respect as well as every Mall, Restaurant, Store, hospital, and Rehab I have visited in the NW. Yet, I’m not allowed in the Wooden Chicken? Yet this is still confusing to me but I suppose I am just a dog after all! I hope the food is good at the Wooden Chicken, however my partner and friend will never know. To all my professional K-9s, brothers and sisters, do not consider them to be Portland pet friendly even if you are a Service or Therapy K-9. Fare Winds and Following Seas...
Read moreA fiend and myself go to the Wooden Chicken usually every Friday when it opens. The scary waitress by the name of Mitzy is there, but we are never waited on by her. The reason I say scary because SO MANY people complain about her. We sit kind of close to the lottery machines, which my friend usually wins on EVERY Friday. Our waitress that we usually have is Robin, and this gal gives excellent service. EXCELLENT. If you win off the lottery machines she will cash the winnings for you. Comes to your table to pick up your check (if she isn't busy which sometimes it gets busy in there at lunch time (Fridays)), checks on you to see how you are doing. SO! Robin deserves an A++++++ in that area. FOOD - On Fridays that have their 3 piece fish for $11.95. I do not eat fish, but my friend does and she loves it. It comes served with french fries and cole slaw, you can get jojos, tater tots or onion rings if you do not want the fries. The fries, unfortunately, are not very tasty. I do recommend the jojos or onion rings, I have yet to try the tater tots. Also if you don't want any of those they will give you a handful of potato chips. I have had their regular cheese burger, it was very excellent. I have had their 4 piece fried chicken, it is the best chicken I have ever had. So crispy and very hot when it comes out, not spicy hot, just temperature wise. I have also had their taco salad, this salad was filled so much beef! It was very good. And last I have had a chef salad, not much you can say about a chef salad, but, it was very good. On Tuesdays they serve tacos all day. I think they are $0.75 each. I can't recall. They also have a happy hour menu, I think that starts at 4:30 PM, not sure for how long. The food for happy hour, I believe, was all $3.00. I have never had their alcoholic beverages so I can't suggest any of those. There are TONS of flat screen tvs and a huge projector screen as well. I believe they have live music and comedians? I'm not sure, I noticed a dance floor type area a couple visits ago. I would have to say the only thing I don't care for is their soft drink selection. RC. I'm more of a Coke fan myself. It's quite dark inside the place, they 3 pool tables and a couple lottery slot machine games. I really enjoy going to the Wooden Chicken and enjoy being served by Robin, she...
Read moreHORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My family went there for my aunts birthday and the waiter there had warned us that she was the only person there so things may be a little slow but there wasn't many there so we said it was okay. It took 20 minutes for us to order and my father (super sweet and polite guy) went up just to let the waiter know we were ready to order. They took our order and we watched as other tables getting there after us were getting there drinks and the waiter was focusing on the bar. My grandfather had went up to the other waiter (Jennifer) after another 20 minutes had past to see about our drinks, not sure what he said but it was brief, she then came with our drinks and yelled at us and point "THAT TABLE, THAT TABLE AND THAT TABLE HASNT BEEN HELPED YET, IF YOU DONT WANT TO WAIT YOU CAN LEAVE" to what my mom just said that we had been there for 40 minutes already and were just waiting. she once again yelled that we could go somewhere else and when I asked what we did she said it's because we asked twice to the waiter for service. I have worked in food service and medical reception and have NEVER TREATED ANYONE THAT WAY. I have said that we are doing our best but have never yelled at anyone, the other waiter looked confused and shocked that we were leaving. Jennifer shouldn't be in a job that is fast paced and stressful because she obviously can't handle it well. I don't recommend going if you want to get treated like a human being. She yelled at my entire family when two people checked on our order while the rest of us just talked and didn't notice. I never leave negative reviews because I understand how hard customer service is but that was uncalled for. We ended up at another place who was also short staffed but got amazing service and were...
