I recently visited this pub for the first time and was not that impressed. We saw a number of health violations while we were there. It’s all open so you can see you’re food being prepared and observed. One woman cutting someone’s sandwich with only one glove on one hand. Prior to that she was eating chips directly from the bucket of chips used to serve to customers. Never saw her wear gloves at all after that. No other food prep person was observed wearing gloves at all....including the guy digging spaghetti out of a bucket with yes, his BARE HANDS onto a serving plate for a customer. Sometimes while serving chips onto a plate for a customer if any were dropped they were placed on the customers plate anyway or back into the chip bucket. A server dropped someone’s dressing container on the floor and brushed it off OVER their plate of food before serving it to them. A bartender also eating chips out of the bucket barehanded, and further touching her nose and mouth then serving food to customers with those same hands. The guy cooking pizza was eating carrots using the same dressing/dip served to customers. I wish I had seen all this prior to eating the food. I don’t understand how anyone can say it’s the best pizza in town because Portsmouth certainly has much better pizza offerings. I’m not trying to sound bitter and I will be fair in saying that you’re not able to see the food prep in all restaurants you go to so I’m sure this happens in many places unseen. It’s also the only place I’ve ever been to that used the same glass for each drink I ordered, and I had 3 drinks. The ice was not refreshed from the first drink and still had the original lime in the glass. I had never seen that ever before. You may think I’m being overly critical but handling food, money, and touching several other things including their own mouths prior to touching the food served to you....really gave us something to think about. Sorry, but will most likely not...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped by for a celebratory drink & dinner this evening and decided to sit at the bar. Our drinks were great but the pizza I ordered was not very good. I only ate one piece. It was the combination of flavors which did not sit well with me. So I could not eat it. But, the thing that really bothered us was being ignored. No one noticed or even bothered to ask if our pizza's were ok. Later, my husband asked for a box to take his home, which he enjoyed. So, the guy brings me a "box" also without bothering to notice or care that I had not eaten mine at all. It was actually sitting on the bar for half an hour without anyone noticing! My husband finally mentioned that I did not care for it. He simply says, "Well, it is one of our most popular pizzas"...Ok, so what?! I did not like it obviously. It does not matter if others LOVE it!? He should have offered to remove it from our bill. Instead, all he said was, "I'll buy your beer since "she" didn't like her pizza". WHAT?! How UNPROFESSIONAL. It is not about the "money"...it is the right thing to do...caring about their customer's experience and if they are happy or not. Noticing if they are enjoying their meal. Asking if their meal was good etc. We will not be back...there are too many great places to eat in the area! In fact, friends of ours had a similar experience and have not gone back. Now we understand what they were talking about. This was truly shameful behavior...this "guy" was old enough to know better. Sorry if this guy takes it personal when someone dislikes "his" pizza. What a terrible experience. Rude and...
Read moreI remember when friends or family would come into town and this would be the place you took them out for a laxed meal to. Recently my wife and I would make this our Friday night go to while our daughter was out with her grandparents so we could untangle after a hectic week. I regret to say that this past Friday offered an experience that will keep me from ever going back to this place with my family and friends, and for the care and respect I have for others I will no longer recommend this business either. Customer service, phone discipline, cleanliness, and quality are major areas of needed attention. I have traveled to many businesses around the world as part of my career to rate them and write about them in their local towns paper's and I will take my recent experiences here and take the high road. This place has a feeling that radiates with the management or ownership aging and the current employees, not all are running the establishment on an hourly basis with their given emotions and lack of leadership. Hopefully this can be addressed, counseled, and reestablished before places like this become extinct and those chain restaurants move in with there big lights, commercials, quality promises, and benefit packages. Best of luck...
