My Mother and I decided to get out of the house and try something new, well new for us. I'm so happy that we did. This quaint little diner was just what we needed it was not to fancy but fancy enough to make you feel at home and everyone seemed to know everyone. The waitresses were awesome including the owners who were right in there helping at the register, take out orders, pick up orders, answering the phone, helping fill glasses of beverages, everyone telling neighborhood stories, or talk of the town on that particular day, could hear people explaining how Let's say Mr Jones health wasn't doing well so they were getting his favorite dishes together and his wife was taking theirs home too eat together at home because it seemed his health now was keeping him from getting to come and enjoy his normal outing there at the diner. It was very touching and it also made me feel very good to know and remember that there are still very kind, caring, loving people still left in this world.. The diner was very clean. The food!!!! Well can I just say that even a food that is normally never eat my mom got and I actually had to try a big bite of that and may I say it was also so delicious... WOW 😲 I have to say to everyone if you've never tried this place your really missing out It was truly a wonderful place to eat and everything I didn't get the blessing of eating looked like a food that when you see it, that good makes your mouth 🌊💦 water! No kidding everything they brought out I was saying to my mom oh oh oh mom mom We've got to try that next time! Needless to say I'm not young, I'm over 45 so for my mom too have to say okay hunny well shhhsh Well get that next time but people probably don't want us to be staring at their food lol, I want actually staring but I did look as it by me..... 🤭 That's okay because it has been a really long time since I'd been to an eating place that made me feel like I did when the food diners were all like that.. I mean if you want to pay 100.00 for 1 meal that you get one fourth of the food and the place is fancy, Foo foo and the service is so-so get all dressed up and by all means we need that too.. I say yes pamper yourselves and definitely go.. Just if get in that other mood when you need a little bit more down home feeling definitely try this diner I can truly guarantee the biggest grumpy critics Would Fall hard for this diner. I just know it.. so that's my 2cents for whatever it's worth.. I pray everyone enjoys whatever and wherever they're eating.. Blessed with a...
Read moreWe just left this establishment. After a wonderful church service, my seniors and I went to Hometown Diner to grab a quick dinner before our 4 pm service. The oldest is 96, then 92, 85 and two are 65. The ladies in their 80’s and 90’s had canes and walkers. After some trouble getting out of the car, we went in to what we thought would be a nice dinner.
To our surprise, no one came to open the door; no problem, there were several kind people who held the door. We came in and stood for awhile, yet no one came up to us to show us a table or even say hello. Assuming you simply sit at any table, we saw one and sat down. Two or three waitresses simply sent past without even acknowledging our presence. We were not given menus, nor were we asked if we wanted drinks. After several minutes waiting, the senior ladies said this reminded them of the restaurants in the old south that wouldn’t serve blacks. The 96 year ol said let’s leave. No one from Hometown Diner came to ask us to stay or see if they could help.
I don’t know if it was because we were all African Americans or if it was our ages or that we had on church attire. All I can say is, the Manager and her staff need to treat people with respect no matter what. I might add that there were only a handful of non-African Americans in the restaurant, so they were definitely NOT BUSY.
If you are a regular there, hope you enjoy, but as for this senior & 4 others, we will not step foot into the restaurant and will let our friends know just how horribly we...
Read moreSo disappointed!! Today myself and two other ladies went to Hometown Diner for lunch. Let me first say under old ownership/management, never had any problems, the quality of the food and the service was excellent!! Now I have gone ther several times under the new management and was pleased with the food and customer service. However today it was absolutely terrible; I ordered the fried chicken platter; 4 pieces of chicken i,e., breast/wing, drumstick and thigh w two sides. The problem was the drumstick and the thigh was not fully cook, it was bleeding!! Management came over and agreed that it was not fully cooked. Her initial resolve was 50% off, that worked for me. Now this uncooked chicken was not just me two of the ladies with me also ordered the same thing. They too had exact same issue. The Manager who witness the bloody chicken, apologize and offered 50% off, which was fine with me since Ionly ate 50% of the chicken. When it was time to pay, the Manager never came back to our table instead she would only communicate with our server, who stated that they would only take off now 10% and they kept the raw chicken!! Not only did they charge the full amount, they threatened to call Portsmouth Police if we did not pay!!! I was flabbergasted are you serious!! I paid for my food however, they will never get another dime from me! Buyer beware!!! Thumbs...
