District — Restaurant in Portsmouth

My daughter, sister, and I dined in here for dinner. When we arrived, there was no one up front. After a few minutes someone was randomly walking past and said, to dine in go to the back for the host. We did so. We were taken to a booth where one of the chairs was covered in food crumbs and grease, and the waitress TIFFANY B made a face when she was asked to clean the seat. TIFFANY B was the worst service I ever received in an establishment. She didn’t tell us about the menu or special or ask if we had any questions, had we dined there before or anything. All of which, the other waitress was doing with the booth behind us. She didn’t even speak. She asked what we wanted to drink. Drinks came back, and stuff was floating in my sister drink. The food came out, and she didn’t remember who ordered what. She literally called out everything and sat it all on the edge of the table for us to reach over and get. Then said my daughter fries would be out in a couple of minutes. My fried whiting was flavorless and my first swallow was a bone going down my throat. My Mac and Cheese was COLD and flavorless. MY sweep potatoes were warm, but taste okay. My sister Crab Cake was warm and flavorless. The Cornbread was DRY and flavorless. My daughter fried shrimp she liked, and the green beans. However 45 mins pass and the waitress had not been back to the table not even one time. I had to stare her down for her to come to the table, and she stood there and didn’t murmur a word, and I say “Is she ever going to get her fries”. She turns around, and walks off without saying anything, and comes back to the table with a plate of COLD MUSHY FLAVORLESS FRIES. I said something and she walked off. I then say ”hey just bring the check and boxes cause I’m over this at this point”. She say nothing again, then bring the check. My sister wanted her receipt to her email so she was typing it in and TIFFANY B rolled her eyes at how long it was taking. We NEVER received the take out boxes. No refills. No asking if everything okay. No anything. My sister drink was never even replaced, so she had a meal with no drink. I’m a BIG tipper, but the service was so horrible that this is the first time I couldn't even bring myself to tip sadly. Wish we would’ve gotten seated one table behind and gotten the other waitress. Because of the experience with TIFFANY B, we will never return to see if the cook was just having an off day or not. I DO...

I had visited this place 3 times before the server was pleasant and the food was good. I visited it tonight about 6pm , the place had a nice group of people dining in. The server tonight was at the bar, when we arrived so we weren't dining in, and she acknowledged us after 10 mins to say she was working alone, so she said to give her a minute. At that point I was being patient and trying to be understandable..She took our order after about another 10 minutes as she served drinks at the bar and to other guests. Okay, so this was moving along, I sat watched the tv and after 45 minutes of wait time I became concerned, she came to us and asked for the money because she was about to check out, my remark was I don't have my food nor know how long it would be and what it was going to look like. She stated we show you the food and I signed the slip, but she didnt pick it up for another 10 minutes. We sat and sat the guy at the bar was blowing his nose using the napkins placing used tissues on the bar, where food was being set to be shown to you. This young lady counted money, removed dishes from the table, restocked the bar, handled food, never did I see her wipe the counter down or wash her hands. So finally our food came out it set in the window for almost 10 minutes as she cleaned out her tip jar putting the money in her pocket, the new person coming on was counting the drawer, so my friend asked the server, who had waited on us, could we get our food before it got cold, she turned went over to get the 3 dinners brought them over to the bar counter slammed them down here is your food opened all 3 up at one time, I could tell she had an attitude, but I remained composed they looked okay in the dark, but when I got it home oh, what a different story, 1 chicken dinner was okay, the other one the chicken was hard and you could taste the burnt grease, the rice and gravy wasn't good this time the gravy apparently wasn't hot, on the fish dinner the potato salad was warm tasted as though it was just made no sign of having been refrigerated. In all this trip was terrible..out of $40 one good dinner..so maybe it was the cook this time, but the server's attitude didn't help. Maybe she was feeling over worked, but dealing with the public you have to suck it up, we weren't nasty and maybe if she had said that it would be an hour or more wait then it would have been our decision to...

This place was recommended to me over a year ago and I finally went. There were three diners prior to me being seated. MIKE our waiter introduced himself. He provided use I some cocktail napkin a piece. He suggested the strawberry henny...I suggest not it wasnt strong foe $13 and another shot had to be added for $12. I will comeback to that. Where we sat was dim and you had to scan the menu on the table. It didn't work so MIKE provide another way to scan.

Meals ordered: fried whiting, rice and gray ans collard greens. Fried smothered pork chops, rice and gravy, cabbage and a extra side of yams. MIKE shared it came with corn bread.

Back tot he drink, I asked MIKE for an additional shot of Hennessey. MIKE who had his white ear piece in his ear AND WAS ON A CALL said okay. After several minutes I had to ask MIKE again (who was still on a personal call walking around talking) said I'm waiting for it. The female bartender happen to walk next to him and I heard him say, can I get a shot of Henny. Guess it was never ordered.

Food comes. He brings the items 2 at a time. What they don't have large serving trays? I had to ask for the corn bread several minutes later which came with no butter. Yet, MIKE was still on the phone. Cabbage was cold sent that back. Probably chops were rubbery. Whiting meal was actually good so I shared it. MIKE NEVER CAME TO ASK IF WE WERE OKAY UNITIL WE WERE 2/3 THROUGH THE MEAL. HOWEVER HE WAS STILL ON THE PHONE. That musta been 1 good call. And when he did come over he said. Yall still doing okay? STILL? BRUH, u never asked a first time. The gentleman cleaning the tables took away our dishes cause MIKE was never came over.

MIKE finally asked if we were ready for the bill, ABSOLUTELY!!!

So sad, I was looking forward to a nice refreshing meal. The old decor, the unprofessional customer service, weak drinks and okay food is NOT a reason for me to return.
