My smoothie and salad were just ok, and I was told the ingredients in both were 100% organic, which I question. I've been to CocoBeets in Boston, and that is the best organic smoothie place I've ever been to. They get it. The smoothies were so good, organic, and fresh, I'd drive four hours just to get one. The staff at CocoBeets could tell me exactly what was organic, which was almost everything. There were only two ingredients they named that day that were not organic, and that is very helpful to someone like me who eats strictly organic and is healthy. I'm not one of those pseudo healthy people who would walk into Fresh Press and order anything without asking any questions or caring whether the ingredients were organic or not. I think Fresh Press should decide which target market they are catering to and act accordingly. If they truly want to cater to health-conscience, discriminating people, they need to raise the bar. Other than taste and quality, the environment of this store was extremely toxic. I was a little upset that there was lead paint on the walls. I understand that it's Portsmouth and the buildings are old. That's ok for most places, but again if you want to distinguish yourself as a truly healthy, organic smoothie and juice place, it's not ok to allow your customers to breathe in toxic fumes while they are ordering. I was planning to stay for an hour, but as soon as my symptoms started, I picked up my things and prepared to leave. I still feel sick hours later. I am certain that any health benefits I got from the smoothie and salad I ordered were far trumped by the toxins in the air. I don't know about most people, but when I go into a place like that, I don't want to have to worry about what I'm breathing in while I'm there, nor should I. Cocobeets has no lead paint on their walls. Again, they get it. And again, Fresh Press needs to raise the bar a lot if they want to cater to the truly healthy people who crave real healthy, delicious, and organic food and drink that, unfortunately, is still very...
Read moreI used to love Fresh Press when it was located on Fleet Street. I was a regular there, and I absolutely loved their oats for breakfast, bowls and salads for lunch, and juices and healthy warm drinks at any time of day. The ingredients were of superb quality. I am really bummed that the food quality has declined so drastically since the Fresh Press relocated to @ The Green. I passed through Portsmouth today and decided to eat at FP because of how much I used to love the food. We ordered a burrito bowl and an avocado salad. The burrito bowl was made with white rice, which is a change from the old location’s brown rice, and not-so-fresh looking ingredients. My boyfriend ate some of his bowl, but didn’t finish because it was not pleasant. None of the ingredients were fresh or tasty. The avocado salad’s lettuce was not fresh either. It was a yellowish-brown color. I took a couple of bites but it just didn’t taste right, from the dressing to the vegetables. I had asked to add chicken, but there was no chicken on my salad so I asked for it on the side. I was handed a cup of chicken sitting in a pool of oil. (See photo.) It smelled and tasted foul. We left quietly and tossed our food. It is now about a half hour later and we feel nauseated from the few bites of our food that we had. I really, really hope that this review serves as a wake-up call to the owner and/or management at Fresh Press. If not, I hope to at least caution future customers regarding the food quality. On a side note, I have never left a negative Google review in my life. This felt necessary, though. Also, the young girls working there were very friendly and the cafe was clean, so this is not a complaint about the service or...
Read moreI love this place! Firstly, I appreciate that the food is Organic. It is hard to find places to eat that serve Organic food! They serve a wide variety of very delicious smoothies, brunch foods, fresh pressed juices, snacks, and some sandwiches. I love that they default to gluten free bread too! My only suggestion would be to add just a little more to the chicken salad sandwich- I loved it but it needed some pickles or some extra lettuce to add the crunch factor. The atmosphere in here is such a nice vibe- there are real plants everywhere, a trendy modern wooden style to the decor and furniture, and it feels so bright and roomy! The bathroom was super clean and even had a little plant cutting on the sink. The restuarant feels interactive as well. There's a nice photography wall, a cool moss mural, and lots of little things to look at and take pictures of. And lastly, the customer service has always been excellent. I love to come and grab my favorite: Avo and egg toast with pesto drizzle and everything bagel seasoning, paired with whatever smoothie...
