Skrimp Shack — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I’m from New Jersey and I visit my sister in Chesapeake several times a year, I look forward to having Skrimp Shack on every visit and I always had great service and great food. But my last experience was disastrous . On Friday 8/27 my family , 12 in total wanted Skrimp Shack,, if was 8:20 pm so we tried to called in a order, but no one answered. So I went into the store at 8:35 pm,,, place a nice size order,, $175.00 worth to be exact. I paid for my order and watched Haven, an employee toss and throw my food around as she prepared it,, I continued to watch her do this and told her , “ If you don’t want to make my food that’s ok, just give me my money back and I will leave” . The manager on duty heard the conversation and did totally nothing as Haven came out into the seating area and YELLED at me “ THATS BECAUSE WE CLOSE IN 10 MINUTES!!” When I got my food to the house,, it was over cooked and my clam strips were burnt beyond recognition. I can provide photos of my receipt and food. I returned to the Skrimp Shack Saturday morning in hopes of speaking to a different manager because the one on duty Friday night obviously allows Haven to act a fool anytime she pleases because other employees told us that HAVEN always gives customers a bad attitude. I spoke to Tracy another manager, she was very professional, refunded my money for the clams, she looked at the burnt clam strips and didn’t know what they were by the way. Haven definitely burnt the clams on purpose in retaliation of me placing a $175.00 order at 8:35 because she wanted to go home. Needless to say,, I will be finding a new place to get my fish from when I visit Chesapeake in the future. Haven must be related to the owners , because there is no way an employee would be comfortable ACTING A FOOL the way she did unless she has no fear of being...

I'm going to try and give an honest review: I told a friend that I was looking for a good fish-n-chip place and she suggested Skrimp Shack. Looking online at the reviews and pictures I thought why not? I ordered the whiting and shrimp with mac and cheese, extra fries. I'll start with the shrimp: they are large, not the small skimpy kind. The breading wasn't crispy but soft and they weren't seasoned or were very lightly seasoned. Same for the whiting. I thought maybe there'd be an Old Bay or southern herb seasoning but, nope. I didn't go there for the mac and cheese and no one makes mac and cheese like your momma so I didn't expect anything but the usual and that's what I got. The fries were a nice size and not greasy. So, I gave the Portsmouth location 3 stars because the site was very clean and I waited maybe 10 minutes. I think if my fish and shrimp were allowed to cook a little longer and they added some seasoning, I would have given more stars. My experience didn't have the WOW factor like many reviews but everyone has different tastes. I also don't get why people like Pollards or Golden Skillet chicken so I guess I have a choosy palate. I'm not giving up though and will try a different location next time. I'll come back and tell you...

Ske not him, Sko leave her mic alone ... as soon as the beat is .... y'all know da rest 😂✌🍻 In all seriousnes, this place is the epitome of the service industry axiom, "We don't train people to be nice, we hire nice people." Even though I walked in at 8:50 pm, on a Friday night mind you, I was treated graciously and with the up most care and concern with regards to my experience. The people, the food, the experience were all simply magnifico. Thank you again

La Kim, keep smiling girl, you look fantastic....I grew up poor right there in the Simonsdale neighborhood, went to Manor High School (dating myself) and my Dad couldn't afford to get me braces so I could get my mouthful of antlers straightened ...At age 28 I finally got them on and went through those prime years of human existence with a mouth full metal .... and was happy to do it ...
