Seriously, I SHOULD GIVE 0 starts, but I am forced by app to give 1 star! My son & I ate or should I say DIDN'T eat, except chips salsa and a side of 12$ quacomole last tonight, and when I say it was a HORRIBLE experience, let me say the servers were polite, it's the OWNER/Mngr MIGUEL could use some business courses on HOW to run a business (his ego is likely unteachable, because I tried & wasted my breath)! The 25$ plate I ordered was SUPPOSED to be Diablo Prawn dish, & a 9$ side chili relleno. BOTH were AWFUL! I politely asked the manager who was walking by, "Did u change ur sauce?" He's said, "no." I said, "Oh well, it's REALLY super sweet & not spicy AT ALL." WELL, HOLD ON TO UR SOMBEROs when u HEAR HOW this OWNER MAKES his SAUCE (by his admission)! W/KETCHUP & TAPITIO! IN a 25$ PLATE that he's SO proud of. (& they leave the tails ON Prawns which forces one to dip their fingers inside the sauce to pull tails off. DIABLO sauce is SUPPOSED to be made w/DIABLO PEPPERS! Mushrooms being the ONLY other ingredient in the dish were NOT edible cause seriously WHO eats mushrooms W/KETCHUP?! Not the worst of it. When the waitress came & asked if I'd like a take out box, I said we'll, no, as I really didn't like it, after having eaten only 1 bite." She says, "Wait, let me get a manager. The owner/manager did NOT offer 1 dime off bill! He then said he'd changed the entire menu (as a new owner), & he just jokingly says, "Oh u can just add some hot sauce to it." Then he proceeds to ARGUE at table OVER 20 minutes about COST of his restaurant business & liquor license and how he has to pay his cooks, but he's there cooking in the morning. THE EGO on this owner was off charts! He's like, "Well, u could order the $18 tostada. I'm like, "I CAN MAKE THAT at HOME for a few bucks!" It's kind of funny because he kept saying," Oh, u can check my Facebook. " I have lots of good reviews. I'm like, FB, u can just delete or block somebody. You're not getting the reviews u should be getting, because this is horrible food, & you're very rude. I would not come back! People often WON'T complain for fear of spit or worse in their food! They often just don't go back! IF a manager TRIES to make concession w/the customer, one MIGHT give a chance, but after arguing with this man for too much of my life & proceeding to have him make racist remarks about white people, not knowing good food, or hot food, which I WANTED spicy, or that he can't please everyone. I said no, I wouldn't expect you to, but I WOULD expect u to take the cost of MY meal off $35 for my food, which was awful, & I couldn't eat. I said I'm not paying for all that, & left. He then to take a photograph of my son's license plate. We called the police to let them know that this man-made racist remarks and we felt uncomfortable, & left w/o paying for all which I've NEVER done in 60 years! We found out HE had called the police on us! He's charging California prices in Idaho, where the minimum wage is $7 an hour. Give me a break. He deserves to be shut down with his attitude. My son called his Mexican friend and said. "Hey, do you know any Mexican that cook w/ketchup? He's like, "God NO!" Well, this guy claims he's from Jalisco, Mexico, so he should cook real mexican food, BUT he's cutting corners! He needs to go to college & take a few business courses, as the first rule of business is "the customers is always right even when u don't want them to be right. There's no Mexican place to eat other than Taco Bell. He was telling me about Taco Bell shocked that they had long lines just down the street. I'm like, yeah, Taco Bell's not great, but it's affordable, & u KNOW what u're getting. I shouldn't be paying 25$ dollars a plate for 6 prawns in ketchup! I could go on but let's just say as a MINIMUM an owner/manager should start or at least say, "I'm sorry, EVEN if they don't mean it and those words NEVER left Miguel's mouth. Save your pennies, and don't patronize this...
Read moreI wish I could take stars away. This is a Mexican't Restaurant!!! I cannot stress how disappointed I was in visiting. Details below. Wait for table was not excessive at all. A very young boy brought me chips, two bowls of salsa, and a type of slaw with jalapeno slices. He stated the salsa with spoon was spicy hot. He took my drink order, a coke as they don't understand the concept of sweet tea here. Chips - about one day after stale. Mild salsa - It was nothing but tomato juice with flakes of what I believe was cilantro. Tasted like reconstituted tomato juice. V8 juice has more flavor. Hot salsa tasted and appeared just the same with the addition of Tabasco sauce. I know this flavor all too well. Dinner was a suggestion by the waiter, male server with unknown name. I mentioned considering a burrito and pointed at the Signature Namesake. He said that was just like their regular starter burrito. He said the 'Loco Donkey' burrito was great. He claimed that they use outside flank steak. He said even if it was well done that it was so tender. I took this as my choice. Bad mistake. The burrito came with a covering of red sauce, raw white onions, cheese, a dollop of guacamole, and sour cream. The filling I discovered contained meat, rice, and beans. The first thing I noticed was the poorly rolled and sloppy presentation. Unmelted cheese, raw onions and red sauce with no flavor. A can of Mama Rosita's sauce at Walmart is 5 steps above this for flavor. The guac, what a tragedy, had jalapeno slices inside with no hint of actual flavors from anything. Not even a hint of lime. Sour creme is sour creme. A cheap institution brand, not a good one but it did lend something to the pallette. The burrito was bland. The rice was more of a mash potato consistency and had no taste at all. I was not given a choice of beans, black beans are my preferred, but the refried beans inside were a thick paste that tasted like cardboard. Sorry cardboard, but they were bad. The steak, this supposedly superior cut did taste grilled. But that was as close to steak, even a cheap steak, as it gets. The frozen selection at a Family Dollar for ribeye would top this. I did eat as I was hungry and mixed the mild and a touch of hot salsa in so it tasted like food. The name translates into 'Old Ranch', I think the food is as old as the '70s flea market furniture. Another patron commented as she turned for the door as I was paying that this was the place back in the day. She left before ordering. Some of the decor was charming I will grant them that but the food doesn't even compare to Taco Bell. If you choose to visit, regardless of the experience, tip your server. Even if the food is garbage, your drink is empty for 10 minutes and is never refilled. Even though the sign inside said understaffed, tip those who bring you food and never return. Just tip according to service level. I hope that someone can save this place, start with a little salt, some pepper, and authentic seasoning. This is what Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares...
Read moreUPDATE: Went to the Hayden Rancho Viejo with the same updated menu, ordered the same thing, actually got the right order, shocker right? You literally served me and my wife your new queso birria tacos when we both ordered Carne Asada and tried to play it out like you didn't get the order wrong. You said this is your "rendition" of them and they're "sooo good", dude, you literally served two $26 plates incorrectly, were told what we ordered, then didn't make any sort of attempt to make it better. Then you respond to my comment on here two weeks later telling me to "read the menu first", bruh, you're the OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT, maybe you should learn to SERVE THE CORRECT FOOD, and maybe train your employees better. We ordered the correct items, you're apparently braindead and think a carne asada taco comes on a corn tortilla with cheese baked into it.
Came in with a huge group for my birthday, didn't even feel like telling them it was my birthday after my dinner came out. $6.75 a piece for some tacos that looked nothing like a carne asada taco, looked like some bar food experiment. Two of them were 75% pico, one had a gigantic spoonful of some crumbled cheese on top, they didn't look good at all. Tried telling them this wasn't what I was expecting and explained how at both other Rancho Viejo locations the side orders of the tacos are pretty straight forward. Only response was "just try them", I said "I don't eat pico on carne asada tacos", and it was "just give them a try" and that was the end of the conversation. No offer to make them differently, no offer to comp them and just take them back, was charged full price and told "have a great night". If I could leave a 0 star rating I would. Definitely taking my future business back to the Hayden location where everything has always been beyond expectations and they'll actually provide a solution if you flat out don't like the food...
