A couple months back we went to Stave and Stable to celebrate my stepdad's birthday, and I'm deeply disappointed--not just by the experience, but by the complete lack of response from the restaurant after we reached out multiple times. We emailed the restaurant within the week after our visit, followed up 10 days later, and even sent a message through Facebook, which we could see was read but still ignored. This is completely unacceptable.
I would consider checking Yelp as well, as their rating is a full star lower on there then it is on here.
Our family reserved a table for 14, excited to enjoy what was advertised as locally sourced, high-quality cuts of meat. Steak is my stepdad's favorite, so this seemed like the perfect place for his celebration. While the atmosphere was cozy and our server kept our drinks filled, the food left a lot to be desired--particularly the "Wagyu" steaks, which were absolutely horrendous.
The Wagyu sirloin served to myself and others was tough, stringy, and far below the standard of what anyone would expect from premium beef. My girlfriend's steak was especially awful--she struggled to cut through it and eventually had to spit it out because it was so chewy. She left the entire steak on her plate, yet our server didn't even acknowledge it when clearing the table. It was glaringly obvious just by looking at the steak that something was wrong with its quality. Several others in our group had similar complaints but chose not to speak up at the time to avoid dampening the celebratory mood.
Another guest ordered the duck, expecting it to be cooked medium-rare, but it arrived overdone. Like the steak, it was removed from the table without a word or inquiry from the server.
The only positive notes from the evening were the soup, bread, and the correct doneness of the steaks--but those small wins don't make up for the glaring issue: the quality of the meat was simply unacceptable. For a restaurant that markets itself on premium meats, serving such poor-quality Wagyu is misleading and disappointing, especially at a price point that left our bill just shy of $2,000.
The lack of response to our concerns only adds insult to injury. We tried to address this directly with the restaurant through email and social media, but no one has bothered to reply. Ignoring paying customers--especially those willing to spend money on what was supposed to be a premium dining experience--is unacceptable.
I wouldn't recommend Stave and Stable to anyone who values quality, transparency, or basic...
Read moreMy wife and I were so excited to eat here for their 1920s themed “prohibition” New Year’s Eve dinner, and even dressed the part, as recommended on their website. With as high a rating on Google, and seeing as they were running a promotion for the holidays for spend $100 on a gift card, get a free $20 gift card” (more on this later), we purchased $300 worth of gift cards, planning on gifting some, using the bonus towards the meal. The place looked really nice, and the atmosphere was fitting- the back room was a little chilly. We ordered off the menu for the themed evening exclusively, aside from the cocktail my wife had and the deserts. Food- it was good, some dishes were borderline great, but almost everything was under seasoned and needed salt. The oysters Rockefeller were good, but not great- needed salt. My wife got the Chilean Sea-bass, that was $76. She said it was under seasoned and not worth the price for the portion. I got the Veal Escalope with Mushrooms- this would have been really amazing if it were seasoned properly (needed salt)- I felt like this was worth it. My wife got a smoked Manhattan cocktail, that she said was ok, but would never order it again. We got one of each of the deserts that were offered, a crème brûlée (this was very good and worth it) and a poached pumpkin with walnuts I think?… it was good, just not worth $14. When we got the gift cards, we were informed that the promotion ended on December 24th… we let it slide in the restaurant, but inspected their website (where my wife did our reservation and ordered the cards) and we could not find a single place on the entire site that said anything about when the deal ended! I tried to included a screenshot from the site (I have one) but I think the review keeps being taken down for having a website screenshot. The fact that they still have the deal up on their site with no information about when it ended and that they wouldn’t honor it is a huge oversight. I get this is a small place, but if you’re going to run a promotion, you need to be clear about when it’s actually happening and stipulations. We would have never purchased gift cards otherwise and would have just paid cash. We’ll give the remaining gift card as a gift (We used 2 of them that night because the bill was over $200). I was hoping this place would be what the Funky Little Kitchen was, but alas, it fell short. I don’t know that we’ll ever go back. If you’re going to charge this much for a meal, it needs to be that good, and...
Read moreWe’re recent transplants f/ KOP area. Normally for fine dining we stick with Eddy V’s. That being said, we’re in Lower Pottsgrove, so driving up to KOP is not necessarily practical. My hubby and I are looking for local fine dinning. We went to the Blue Elephant & that was bad (see my review). My hubby opted to try Stave & Stable for our Valentine’s dinner. Regarding the ambiance- it’s cute, quirky & cosy with friendly staff. Alcoholic drinks- did not deliver. I had “the lime & the coconut” - no coconut flavor at all. My hubby had the “smoked vanilla Manhattan” which according to my hubby tasted like bitters and not bourbon. Appetizers- the escargot tasted like just oil. Not garlicy or buttery. The Foie gras was cooked well, but sauce tasted like watered down balsamic. Main course- great presentation, but overall not good. The duck dish came with a chutney that overpowered the entire dish. My biggest gripe was the wagyu NY strip steak which was the worse wagyu steak I’ve ever had. It almost seems like meat was old. All I can say is that it was extremely dry (the last word anyone would think of to describe wagyu meat) and cooked unevenly. One side was medium & the rest of it was close to but not the medium rare I requested. The mash potatoes were also a bit on the dry side and the veggies felt like an afterthought. In summary & unfortunately, not a...
