The Hop Stop — Restaurant in Poway

10/26/24: We had a family birthday party at the picnic tables in the outdoor patio area on a balmy evening—great casual atmosphere for a Saturday evening. There was a Halloween parade on the street outside so many of the families at the Hop Stop were in costume, including a bunch of little kids (the patio appears to be kid proof with no escapes while we were there). None of our party of 12 had ever been there before and we were all so pleasantly surprised how good the food was, and what a great beer selection at the bar! Everybody working there was so friendly and helpful, the service was quick, the ordering was easy, and the food was so good—by far the best steak sandwich I’ve ever had! Our group ordered burgers, quesadilla (loaded!), chicken club, chicken wings (huge, and in huge portions), cheesesteaks, tacos, with sides including good fries, tater tots, guac & chips, etc. Everything was served picnic style outdoors, and they let us bring in our own birthday cake & supplies. Very reasonable prices, super-nice staff, comfortable surroundings, clean restrooms, plenty of street parking. I am giving this a 4 star review because I absolutely love the vibe and the staff. I come all the time and enjoy it each time I come. My reason of not giving it a 5 star is because I feel they are going a little backwards. I think the food was once good but is now terrible, and I mean terrible. I ordered shrimp Ceviche and I didn't see any shrimp, I ordered two chicken taco plate and I got a shredded beef stew like meat taco, I am the quiet non complainer so I didn't say anything and just took it, it was $30 which later I left upset that I had such a horrible dinner, my Prosecco however was great. A little more umbrellas on the patio would be good to keep people out of the hot sun and updating things to keep them nice for the price you pay would also be good.

On the food - can you please bring back the Chicken Kob Burrito. If I can give any advice, the food needs to be really looked at for what you are charging. I really was upset thinking how I just spent $30 bucks on terrible food that I could have spent on a fantastic meal at home.

I’ve been to the Hop Stop a couple of times, looking for a chill, relaxed place with good beer and food menus – I found all that and more.  Both of my visits included friends, a mix of beer and non-beer drinkers.  Between the many beer, cider, hard seltzer and wine options, everyone found something they enjoyed.  The food menu was just as varied and everything that we ordered was fantastic.   I particularly enjoyed the Hop Stop burger and wings, both seasoned well and cooked perfectly.

The service we received both times was on point.  The bartenders and food runners were very attentive and professional.  I appreciated the food runners coming back to check on us and asking if we needed anything else from the kitchen.  In addition to the great food and drink menus, the outdoor space is really conducive for hanging out with friends and family.  Lot’s of tables to sit at, we never had to wait for seating, despite there being a steady flow of people coming and going.  Waits at the bar were short and the staff was super friendly.  I can see this place easily becoming a favorite, especially as we head into spring and summer.
