My friend treated me to lunch at Penny's earlier this week, and we had an absolutely MARVELOUS time! It was our first visit, and we'll definitely be back!!
We can't say enough good things about our server, Bri! She was so friendly, and took the time to walk us through the menu, and answered all our questions, and gave us good guidance regarding menu choices. She made modifications to our order when we had special requests, which we really appreciate. She was really efficient--we didn't have to wait to place our order, and our appetizer and main dishes came out very quickly, and when it came time to pay the bill we hardly had any wait time. Bri checked on us several times during our meal to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction; she even brought out a tray of condiments to see if we'd like to try them on our main courses. (We really liked the cucumber-onion sauce!)
Our meals were OUTSTANDING!! Both my friend and I have visited many Thai restaurants in the Kansas City metro area, and the level of cuisine at Penny's is SUPERB! Everything tasted so fresh, and the flavors were perfectly balanced, and the portions were perfectly sized. I had the Pad Thai with shrimp, and everything was SO delicious; the shrimps were large and succulent and perfectly cooked, and the Pad Thai was perfectly spiced. My friend had the Panang Curry with Chicken, and ate all of it (she almost always leaves with a leftover container), so that tells you how much she enjoyed it. We had the Fresh Spring Rolls for our appetizer--and it's been a LONG time since I've had spring rolls that taste THAT good! We finished our meal with Sweet Sticky Rice and Mango, and it was an amazing finish! The rice is cooked with butterfly pea essence, giving it a purple hue, and the mango slices were plentiful and perfectly ripe.
The restaurant has been renovated since the prior occupant, and we LOVE the new look: high ceilings, bright and airy with plenty of windows, yet cozy and welcoming due to the décor and placement of tables. We especially love the hummingbird and leaf sculptures hanging from the ceiling. It felt like we were in a magical forest.
It was an AMAZING meal, and one we're looking forward to repeating soon! Many thanks to everyone at Penny's for such a...
Read moreI recently visited Penny’s in the Village at the Shops of Prairie Village as part of my Kansas City dog-friendly places series (you can see more on Instagram) , and it was an incredible experience from start to finish.
The atmosphere is beautiful — thoughtfully decorated inside with two fantastic patios perfect for enjoying a meal outdoors. The staff made us (and our pups!) feel so welcome. They even gave the dogs adorable bandanas, which was such a thoughtful touch.
We started with a few appetizers: • 🦞 Lobster Eggrolls – crispy, flavorful, and a great start to the meal. • 💜 Chor Muang (traditional Thai dumplings) – perfectly steamed and full of flavor. • 🥗 Fresh Salad Rolls – my personal favorite of the bunch! So light, fresh, and delicious.
For our entrées, we ordered: • 🍜 Pad Thai – one of the BEST I’ve ever had. • 🍤 Basil Fried Rice with shrimp & chicken – perfectly seasoned and delicious. • 🍝 Thai Lo Mein – loved that you can customize the spice level to your liking.
And of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert: • 🍮 Warm Butter Toffee Cake – rich, warm, and indulgent. • 🥭 Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango – fresh, sweet, and perfectly balanced.
Every single dish was fantastic. The flavors were spot-on, portions generous, and service outstanding. It’s rare to find a place that delivers both amazing food and such a warm, welcoming environment for dog owners.
Whether you’re looking for a date night spot, a fun dinner with friends, or a patio outing with your pups, Penny’s is an absolute must-visit. We left full, happy, and already planning our...
Read moreThis new thai restaurant in the village is ✅ ng all the boxes with a FIVE star experience from top to bottom. Located just west of Mission road on 71st Street in the Prairie village shopping center it is easy to find with tons of parking. Bezza the weather was so nice we decided to eat outside and share appetizers and drinks. The princess ordered the sampler plate and I ordered the calamari also to share. The patio was full the crowd lively and our server, Stella, did a terrific job. She was very attentive and helpful but never hovering. The food arrived hot and tasty . Everything was spot on and we are sure to return soon. Update, the princess and I returned as promised last night to explore more of the menu and we were not disappointed. Last night we shared two selections from the street food section, ribeye skewers and orange chicken. The portions were generous, easily shareable and delicious!! We decided to sit inside to experience the atmosphere here. Although it is and was quite lively outside the indoor dining rooms are also very comfortable and relaxing. The only small issue that won't effect my rating was my surprise to see an up charge for fried vs steamed rice. This might have been disclosed in the menu but I didn't see it. Be sure to visit this jewel in the Village shops soon while you can still...
