I guess I've been spoiled in the past, which probably led to what (apparently) the staff at Tavern in the Village felt were unreasonable expectations.
I ordered their Cajun Cream & Bacon Sauteed Brussels Sprouts as the side with my sandwich. The dish was delivered and, because I am a kind, sharing person, I offered to share with my lunch companions. The sprouts were so terribly undercooked and tough that none of the three of us were able to stick any of them with a fork to move from the bowl to the plate. So much for sharing ...
I scooped under a couple of them with my fork (still not able to penetrate the outer surface) onto my plate and still found, not having been offered or thought to request, a steak knife, they they could not be cut.
The person who took our order happened to be passing by, taking food to a neighboring table, so I mentioned to her that the sprouts were badly undercooked and inedibly tough and she asked me if I would like them cooked a bit more. I said yes ...
She took the bowl (I'm assuming to the kitchen, but it might just as well have been a close by microwave) and returned with it a bit later. It was a bit warmer, and the sauce looked for all the world like it had been microwaved gooey, but the sprouts ... not fazed by whatever had been done to them remained too tough to eat.
I asked the order taker to return the bowl to the kitchen and ask the "chef" to take a bite. I have no idea what happened to them from there.
Now - because I AM probably spoiled - I would have expected the order taker to mention our chat to a "manager" and might even have thought that a "manager" might stop by the table.
Didn't happen ...
I mentioned my experience to the person at the check-in stand as we were leaving. She told me that she would tell her manager (one might have thought that she would have invited a manager, at that point, to hear the tale from me ... but no ... she said "Have a good day!", and went back to looking at her 'phone.
Another reviewer said, in her Yelp! review of November 9,2024, that she thought this place was "like a step above a TGIF Fridays". I disagree. A manager at TGI Friday's would have been all OVER this matter the FIRST time the food...
Read moreMy date and I ate here on a Wednesday night, it was packed, but they still were able to seat us in a booth immediately. This is pretty much the only positive thing I have to say.
The "atmosphere" is loud. That's fine, thats expected, but it was still a bit louder than I'm used to. But the building itself seemed, bland. Nothing really set this area apart from any other restaurant in any town in any part of this country. Nothing I would take a star away from in a review, though.
The real let down and the reason for 3/5 stars, is the service, for starters. Not a single refill of water. Had to ask for a Coke for my date three separate times. The alcoholic drink my date had looked like a biohazard. The final straw was a steak knife that was brought to the table and just put down right on the surface, not on the napkin less than 1 inch away, or its own napkin...or on a plate later on...anything other than the table itself. I'm sure the table is clean, but, it's just not proper.
Then there was the food. The steak was rubber. I've never had a more rubbery and tasteless piece of meat. 0/5 stars for the filet mignon. The potatoes were great, though, so I'll give the food 3/5 overall. Insanity to serve this for $40. My dates burger was also extremely average. I've had better burgers with more flavor from McDonald's.
It was a busy night, so I can understand a few things, but, for the price tag of $75 for 2 people, I expected just a little more attention to detail in all aspects. Maybe the area is just too bougie and they can scam people out of good service/food...gas is literally 20 cents higher here than a couple miles down the road. I'm not a local, so, shame on me I suppose.
It feels rude to leave such a poor review, but, I'm never going to bullshit the people that...
Read moreHello … I am very very disappointed in this restaurant .. I was in here last night for our date night . We sat at the bar and had one cocktail . Our reservations was for 7:00 pm . We went to our table and looked over the menu . During that time our sever offered us a water . We ordered our food . I accidentally spilled my beer that we had paid for at the bar . Our server had asked us if we had paid our bar tab . Yes we did with Brian which my guy knows very well . Our server I do not know his name brown hair and a ponytail seemed skeptical of us paying our tab. After I spilled my beer he did provide napkins . We then ordered another cocktail . He got my guy his drink but walked away from me . He then came back to our table and said “ I am making an executive decision and cannot serve you Any more Alcohol but can provide you with some more water “.I was shook . I was not intoxicated and did not even know what to say . He did say we could talk to the manager but decided to take the high rode and leave . I am a clutz and if you knew my history you would understand . But to assume I am intoxicated when I am not SHAME ON YOU !!!!! You need to train your severs to understand the difference between people that make mistakes and intoxicated pavilions . I know our business will not matter to you at all but sad the way we were treated . We left went to gravity had great food an service . I like to be positive and think the best of people but we will not be back . I also think the way you treat people you will be shut down soon...
