I never leave bad reviews, but this dealt with my kid so I cannot be silent. As a celebratory getaway out of state for finishing law school and taking her bar exam, we came to KC for a vacation. After much research my daughter was excited to find a place with vegan ice cream. Having a severe dairy allergy is hard when you love ice cream, and this place had amazing reviews.
We walked in and the ONLY dairy free flavor on the board was âVanillaâ. She asked the clerk if the gluten free waffle cone was also dairy free (hereâs your signâŠ) and she said yes, and my daughter asked for a dairy free vanilla on a gluten free waffle cone. My daughter also asked and confirmed that the ice cream was dairy free. And get thisâŠwhen we checked out a blonde asked if it was a dairy free vanilla and my daughter said yesâŠand so we go outside to eat. My daughter said she didnât think it was dairy free and wasnât feeling good - but hey - two people confirmed before we paid it was dairy free. I then went inside to âconfirmâ and the girl who made the cone said âthe vanilla isnât dairy free but the waffle cone isâ (speed check - ASK FOR A DAIRY ALLERGY). The girl who checked us out (who asked if it was a dairy free ice cream) came over and said âwe donât always have dairy free vanilla and it changes outâ. IT WAS THE ONLY DAIRY FREE FLAVOR LISTED ON THE MENU BOARD!!!!! And - she confirmed the ice cream was dairy free vanilla at check out!
Training tip: IF SOMEONE ASKS IF SOMETHING IS DAIRY FREE OR GLUTEN FREE, CONFIRM IF THERE IS AN ALLERGY AND SUGGEST ICE CREAM TO FIT THEIR ALLERGY IF âANYâ!!
Side note: no refund was offered after we had to throw away the ice cream and rush to the hotel where my sick daughter is hoping she can be in the car to travel home...
Read moreI saw on Instagram that they offer gluten free cones and dairy free (vegan) Ice creams. I messaged them to see what their vegan base was made of as I have many food allergies. They have ice creams made form oat milk, almond milk and coconut milk. I explained to them that I was allergic to coconut and oats so I would need an almond base but was also allergic to strawberries. They messaged me back and said that their owner Curtis was working on new flavors and would make me a new flavor with an almond milk base. They made me a mocha fudge chocolate ice cream with almond milk! It was fabulous! It wasnât too sweet, the fudge was made from dates and cocoa and tastes amazing and actually had an ice cream consistency unlike some vegan ice creams you purchase at the store! The gluten free cone had a great flavor but was a bit chewy. I havenât had a cone in years though so I didnât mind! Also, they have all recyclable products (wooden spoons, cups and napkins) so that makes me really happy! My partner got their snickerdoodle ice cream and said it was fabulous! It was a bit pricey but def worth...
Read moreI stumbled upon Summer Salt ice cream while working out at Power Life in Prairie Village, and let me tell you, it was love at first sight - or should I say, love at first scoop!
As soon as I caught sight of it from the gym window, I knew I'd be indulging in some sweet treats as soon as my workout was over. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait!
I opted for the lavender local honey ice cream, and oh my goodness, it was pure bliss in a cup. The flavor took me back to a similar ice cream I had years ago in Monterey, California, and I was instantly transported to those sunny days by the ocean.
Eating it in my car after my workout felt positively sinful, but hey, sometimes you just have to treat yourself, right? And let me tell you, it was worth every single calorie.
Overall, Summer Salt ice cream is a hidden gem that I'm so glad I discovered. With its heavenly flavors and nostalgic vibes, it's definitely become a favorite indulgence after my gym sessions. Can't wait to go...
