If you’re looking for a place that serves up soul-satisfying barbecue with a side of genuine Southern hospitality, look no further than Fat Boys Barbecue. This local gem has been serving the community since the late 1990s, and it’s clear why they’ve stood the test of time—consistency, flavor, and heart. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted like family. The staff is always kind, welcoming, and incredibly attentive. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, they make you feel right at home. That sense of community and service shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. At the heart of it all is the owner—a wonderful person who truly cares about the quality of the food and the impact his business has on the community. His dedication is evident not only in the delicious menu but in the way Fat Boys supports and serves its neighbors. Now, let’s talk about the ribs—my absolute favorite. They’re exceptional every single time. Tender, smoky, and just the right amount of seasoning, they fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. It’s easy to see why they’ve become a local favorite. The menu is packed with variety, so there’s something for everyone—from pulled pork to smoked chicken and hearty sides that complete the meal. Whether you’re craving a quick bite or a full barbecue feast, Fat Boys delivers every time. If you’re ever in the area and craving top-notch BBQ served with a smile, Fat Boys Barbecue is the spot. It’s more than just a restaurant—it’s a part of the community, and once you visit, you’ll keep coming back.

I got the pork loaded potato and he got the brisket plate. He was happy with his. My potato was undercooked and barely room temperature. Cheese was not melted and margarine came in a tub and didn’t melt when I put it on. I had to use plastic fork and knife to cut the potato enough to be able to eat it. I added bbq sauce to my pork and then put the pork in my potato. Also on last bite I found a bone in my meat and it wasn’t a bone from Pork, so it seemed like there was some cross contamination on a cutting board or something. The flavor was good, but execution was lacking. We got there 30 minutes before close, so that could be why the quality of mine was less than desirable. Also felt rushed out. We were the last ones in there. As soon as we left, they locked up and lights were out. We left right at closing, but we shouldn’t have felt like hey we’re rushing us out. Owner was very nice. Enjoyed meeting him.

We only visit Prattville about once a year, but we always stop at the same restaurant, which says a lot because there are other places we could go. We really love the ambience because we always sit outside where we can see the creek. The food is always good, and the service as well. The only thing I could ask for is that they made their own ranch and it didn’t come out of packets. I can’t help it that I judge my restaurants by their salad dressing. However, I guess I can understand because they probably don’t do a large enough volume of business. The barbecue was amazing so it made up for it. Thank you to the owner, who was very gracious. We will be back next year.

I walked up to the counter, ordered a pork sandwich, a side of fries, and a drink, and without batting an eye, the owner looks at me and tells me it's $9.57. Clearly he's been doing this for a while, and it probably explains why Fat Boy's is the best barbecue I've had in the Montgomery area.

Barbecue is not rocket science, though with as many dry pieces of meat I've had to smother in sauce, you'd be excused for thinking it was. In the case of Fat Boy's and the other better barbecue place in town, Varsity, it comes down to a matter of fat and its inclusion in the overall dish. My sandwich had a very good amount of fat throughout, and as such it was the perfect collection of chopped pork. It needed no sauce, nor did it exist in this earthly realm long enough for me to reach for the squeeze bottle.

The sauce is another interesting component. It's dark and sweet, though not in a way that ascribes to a particular region of barbecue. The ingredients listed on the bottle included sauce (duh), pineapple juice, and other sugars; as you might expect, it was sweet to the point of nearly giving me a stomachache as I liberally applied it to each of my fries.

Still, it comes back to the fundamentals that solidify Fat Boy's as one of the area's best: hickory smoke and plenty of fat to keep things lubricated. For as much as the owners want to believe the Lord told them to make this barbecue cabin a little bit off the path of downtown Prattville, it's more simply their ability to properly work a smoker that makes their...
