I knew I’d be in Princeton for a friend’s gig, so I was online searching for a couple places I could go to film for my food vlog. House of Cupcakes showed up on Google, so I began my research! All I needed to see was that they won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and I was sold! So I pulled up, excited to try at least 2 cupcakes
.oh, but the choices! Girl, they were giving VARIETY, hear me?! I was pleasantly overwhelmed. They didn’t only offer cupcakes, but so many other treats. But then I’m like, “you’re not gonna go to House of Gucci to buy LV, so let me stick to the cupcakes” lol. So I continued my quest for the right cupcakes to try. The woman who was taking my order was quite patient with me, as I was just too excited to decide. The phone rang and she excused herself to go take a call. Her co-worker then came out to assist me instead
..he was also patient with my indecisiveness lol. I finally reached a decision for two cupcakes. The first being the strawberry crunch cupcake. The cupcake itself was divine! It was perfectly moist, with this lemon-y center, topped with these Fruity Pebbles-esque bits. My one and only issue was that I should have asked what kind of icing was on it because I found out the hard way that it was topped with whipped cream frosting, which I am totally against lol. But as I said, the cupcake itself was perfect. Just, so fresh and it did not go unnoticed. The second cupcake I tried was called the cupcake brownie. As a dedicated chocolate addict, I almost knew right away that I was getting this one. The name of this cupcake is perfect because it tastes JUST like a brownie

and, well, a cupcake lol. It was beyond impressive. It was also very moist, more dense like a brownie, incredibly fresh, and topped with this heavenly ganache-y type frosting. I could’ve eaten a dozen of them. Just so well done! I see why they won Cupcake Wars. The quality and the effort is there. You can taste the experience in these cupcakes and I thoroughly recommend. They also have other locations throughout Jersey. There are so many cupcakes to try

I have been on the hunt to find THE best cupcakes ever since the small owned bakery I used to get cupcakes from closed down. This past weekend I think I found the cupcakes to beat all cupcakes as my boyfriend and I visited the House of Cupcakes Princeton location. Generally, we try to get a half dozen because 12 cupcakes between two people is a lot (we split each one so we can both taste each flavor) but since the shop is a bit of a distance (roughly an hour and a half from where I live) and due to the wide variety to choose from we decided to go for a full dozen. Never have I been happier with our choice to go big! We sampled 8 of the 12 thus far and every one was moist, flavorful, delicious and unique! The fact that the frosting for the red velvet differed from the strawberry shortcake and the salted caramel, the density of the cake varied, the flavors were bold and distinguishable but not one was too sweet, or overpowering. There wasn't a single one we've tried thus far that wasn't a 10/10!!! When I say there were different varieties of frosting, I mean there was a light whipped frosting on the lemon raspberry, a mild cream cheese on the red velvet and a rich and decadent fudge on the espresso brownie, each one is well thought out and compliments the cupcake in the best way possible. The filled cupcakes are incredible as well with the perfect amount of filling that is enough to enjoy without making the cake soggy, wet or syrupy. I had to tell the world how great they are so everyone can know about the hidden gem that is House of Cupcakes! Thank you for putting an extra sweet spot in the world with your delightful treats!

My son and I were trying various restaurants near the Princeton campus when we found this cupcake shop. We decided to give them a try. When we walked in, we were surprised to see the number of cupcake options available. I didn’t count, but based on the photo, there are close to 50 varieties! That’s impressive. We ended up getting one each. I took the cinnamon bun, and my son picked crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e. They don’t offer a lot of seating, but while during our visit, we found ample seating. I liked the frosting on my cupcake, but my son thought his was too sweet, so he scraped some off. The cupcakes were moist, maybe a bit on the dense side, but delicious nonetheless. If you look closely at the photos, you can see some descriptions of the cupcakes. However, I wish they’d offer a bit more detail about the type of frosting, particularly since I’m not a big fan a cream cheese. I’d much rather have a buttercream selection. Putting that info on the card would be nice. They are open later most evenings, usually 8:30 or 9:00, so if you’re looking for a snack, this place offers a quick option. And the cupcakes are just $3.25 or so. Also, note the sign they have up near the door - they won Cupcake Wars on the Food Network back in 2011! As with all shops around this area, street parking can fill up quickly during busy times. There is a nearby parking garage as well. I look forward to coming back and trying more flavors.

House of Cupcakes provides for a spectacular journey of the senses - both visually and in taste.

It is quite easy to walk past the cupcakery, as it sits discreetly within the row of restaurants and other small shops. However, posters and signage at the windows do a decent job at capturing the attention of the wayfaring netizen to give insight of the delights found within.

Inside the House of Cupcakes resembles that of a deli with a dash of boutique vibes. There is an immediate gravitation to the shelves of assorted cupcakes that line the wall behind the counter. There are also prepackaged cupcakes at the counter for available for quick in-and-out purchase if you don't have time to flounder around with making the "perfect" selection(s). If you are able to distract yourself from those mesmerizing goods, there are also racks of what appear to be locally sourced and made treats available if cupcakes are not your jam. But really, the visually appealing cupcakes steal the show.

The variety and assortment of fresh cupcakes is truly overwhelming, and you could really sit there for minutes trying to decide on what you want. Definitely suggest that you go in with a plan-of-attack; know what flavors you are craving and build around that premise. However, I don't feel that you can go wrong judging by the flavors, and taste (in hindsight).

The cupcakes themselves are incredibly fluffy and soft in texture and consistency. Sure, like other cupcakes they will harden if left expose to the elements, but if consumed properly and efficiently, these probably rates as one of the best cupcakes in the local area (the other best ones we've had are from Blue Sheep Bakery). Depending on the flavor and style, you might have filling within some of the cupcakes, while the majority of them are covered in a rich buttercream. The buttercream has been made to perfection - it is light (almost airy to a degree) and not entirely too sweet.

We picked up half-a-dozen assort cupcakes, and surprisingly the Black Forest and Dulce de Leche varietals stood out to me. I was expecting the Dulce de Leche to be overwhelming sweet, but it was not and incredibly enjoyable. The Red Velvet was good and held its own, however, would have been amazing if the buttercream was cream cheese-based.

All-in-all, a great spot to visit for some...

Where do I begin? I ordered a birthday cake for my co-worker birthday. I was very specific about it being a strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. Now let's be honest, that's a very easy description, nothing complicated. When I spoke to the young lady on the phone, I got a sense that she was confused but I thought nothing of it because she isn't the baker. Thursday I went by to pick my cake up, and let me be honest I was extremely disappointed because the penmanship on the cake seems to have been done by a 5 year old, keep in mind I paid $50 for a cake that can for into my hand. Again, I figured looks can be deceiving and it probably tasted better than it look. I gifted my co-worker the cake and he made no negative remarks because he figured it might taste really good its ok that the writing was awful. I waited for his response before posting my review because it's his birthday cake and he took it home. To my surprise, he message me, "I know you meant well but this is the worst cake I have ever eaten and to hos surprise it wasnt even strawberry cake, it was red velvet cake, and even his wife and 2 year old daughter didn't like it". Why say you can do the cake when you couldn't? Making me a completely different cake that i never asked for? This was not my usual cake spot but my regular spot was closed so I had to find something quickly. That's where House of Cupcakes came to mind. I'm very honest and never bias with any review but I will NEVER order from here again. Its such a shame because the cake was for someone else who was extremely disappointed. House of Cakes you need to do better. I wish I could have gotten a refund because it's not the cake I order. I asked for strawberry cake with strawberry frosting and I got a red velvet cake with...
