29 Must-Try Restaurants in Princeton! 🔥 Each One a Memory of Joy!

PJ's Pancake House seems to be a pillar of this part of Jersey. We were only in Princeton for the weekend and asked around for a few must-eat spots, and it seemed that PJ's Pancake House came up more than a few times. We were heartened by the line that was already forming at its doors on a Sunday morning, knowing that where there's a line, good food awaits. (And for those who disdain a queue, rest assured, the line moves fast, mainly because the servers and line cooks move around with frightening efficiency). The pancakes are well worth the rave. We got two of their pecan pancakes, and they neared perfection in their fluffiness, taste, and the sheer density of pecans that were tossed into the batter. I also ordered some scrambled eggs and bacon on the side, which were just fine. My husband went somewhat rogue with the shakshuka, which is a tomato-based stew with poached eggs. It's served with several crusty pieces of bread, and it's hard to understate how sexily the crostini skated through that thick, savory gravy and egg yolk. If we had any complaints, it was a little saltier than we would've liked. Those waiting in line are often given a choice - counter seats open up faster, but table seats are more comfortable. We opted to grab seats at a counter, and it was fun to watch the dizzying action in the kitchen and around the service stations.

I recently visited this place, and I have to say, it’s truly a hidden gem when it comes to pancakes! Although I come to Princeton often, this was my first time here, and I’m so glad I finally made it. It was already 8:30 PM when I arrived, so I decided to keep it simple and ordered just pancakes. However, I was amazed by the sheer variety they offer — so many different types of pancakes to choose from! I ended up ordering two kinds: the plain pancakes and the coconut banana rum pancakes. Let me tell you, both were absolutely delicious. The plain pancakes were perfect on their own — fluffy, light, and just the right amount of sweetness. But the coconut banana rum pancakes were truly exceptional! The flavors blended together so well, with the coconut adding a nice tropical touch, the banana providing a bit of natural sweetness, and the rum giving it a unique twist. It was a perfect combination. The service was also great. Our server was friendly, polite, and attentive, which made the experience even better. I will definitely be coming back, not only to enjoy those amazing pancakes again but also to try the many other varieties they have on the menu. This place is now on my must-visit list every time I’m in Princeton!

Thought the place looked ok so decided to take my children there 20 and 16. Boy what a disaster!!! Sat down the bench seating was so close to the table that my belly:( hits the table sorry 50 year old belly now. The waitress was so disorganized I felt she was afraid of me. She took my order and we asked for a couple of substitutions all sausage instead of half sausage and half bacon with there 4x4 breakfast. Nope can't do that? Asked if we could get toast with our over easy eggs. Nope can't do that? Asked if we could get chocolate chips in our special instead of plane. Nope can't do that? So I ordered everything thinking it may cost a dollar or two for each. NOPE. The waitress took our order and that was the last time we saw her. Next I had a different waitress who gave us our food but never came back to ask us how things were never filled up our coffee cups which by the way was $5.95 for two cups. Ok in the realm of things not to expensive but just the whole experience was horrible. The pancakes were horrible very doughy undercooked and if you like sinkers then this is it. They give you syrup in a small like butter cup. Thinking the owner must be a miser god forbid we use a little too much syrup on his pancakes. I should have complained but there was no one to complain to and I was just fed up with the entire experience. We were discussing how the sausage could not get any darker with fat? Then I had to chase down our original waitress who really should go into another line of work for our bill. We then were handed our bill and for three people with everything was just under $50.00. (For three people I should have gone to the Princetonian Diner easier on the wallet and at least there you know exactly what you're getting and I liked to be called hun anyway.) I also did not like on your bill the suggested tips to leave very tacky very tacky. I always tip based on my experience and I think most people agree. You should be ashamed of yourselves PJ's terrible experience unacceptable to be in such a great area and give such a poor product. I see some people raving about this place well when I was a lot younger I ate worms too. Poor students and professors they go there out of...

I only ended up here because my wife HAD to have pancakes and the staff at the hotel where we were staying directed us to PJ's. Usually I read the reviews first, but my wife was adamant that it was were she needed to go to eat. Parking on the street is tough and metered. Then there was a long line out the front. Once we were seated inside the place seemed really cramped. The food was at best mediocre. and for some reason took forever to arrive at our table. (poor server) The pancakes had about the same taste and consistency of store brought box mix pancakes. I had the PJ's special omelette with the pancakes. The veggies that were in the omelette were not fresh, and tasted if taken from a can. My pancakes were barely warm, the butter barely tried to melt on it. My wife ordered the sampler pancake special. Her pancakes were barely were warm as well. She called the manager over to complain about the luke warm pancakes and poor server (took forever for our pancakes - which I suspect were left on the service bar under warming lights while our server did who knows what which is why they were only barely warm, we then had to have him get us utensils and napkins, and to get the rest or the order and sides which he delivered at a very leisurely pace 1 at a time) The manager did offer to replace her pancakes and it took another trip of the manager to replace mine also. By the way the manager seemed like he couldn't careless either. All up the quality of the food wasn't even the level of a Denny's and the service far worse. I will never go back again, and heartily recommend that no one else try that terrible place for way over priced pancakes. Oh, on the way out I found out was keeping our waiter for serving us - he was slumped over the entryway dais/desk area trying to chat up the female wait staff while probably nursing a hangover, at least I hope he was trying to nurse a hangover because no one could be that stupid and slow naturally. Last words -...

I had the worst experience here from a man called 'Jose/Hose'. He kicked me out of the restaurant simply because I told him I wasn't feeling well and it was really hot outside and I was 7 months pregnant. His best answer was that I should go and look for a place to sit outside as if I was crazy. The next thing we asked him was there was two empty seats at the bar area which my friend and I did not mind being served and he said no. (Considering there were two families of about five outside, he said they would have to be accommodated first). I then asked to use the bathroom since it is just normal for a pregnant woman to need one, he reluctantly showed us where the bathroom was. I then commented to my friend how mean the so cold 'Jose' was treating us and he overheard and came at us yelling at the top of his voice asking us to leave. I told him we would leave as soon as I used the bathroom and he said I was not a customer (note, I came to just have pancakes after s 45 mins ride). So I insisted on using the bathroom and he then walked back to tell me he would be calling the police if I attempted to use the bathroom, I wondered how ignorant. I asked him what his problem was? Was it because I was female, black, pregnant, what? Anyway, I used the bathroom after all he doesn't own the bathroom and left him his bathroom. I never had my pancakes after the hostility. For a first visit, this was absolutely unacceptable hence stay away from this restaurant if you hear of a man called 'Jose' (Short man...
