I should have known when cilantro was an ingredient in the ramen that this wasn't going to be good. But I got the $15.50 yakisoba anyway because how can you screw up yakisoba?
How you ask? By making chow mien instead! This was NOT yakisoba-the thick straight noodles didn't appear to ever touch the grill as it should. No caramelized sauce clinging to wavy thin noodles, no crispy noodles or vegetables. No char or grill marks on the chicken...just everything stir fried together with "Chinese" style vegetables (i don't think i ever saw water chestnuts or snap peas in any of my food when i lived in Japan). When i had it in Japan and i cooked it in a restaurant the veggies were cheap and simple: lots of cabbage, carrots, broccoli and maybe onion. Not beans or peas, not water chestnuts- that's Chinese stuff. There wasn't nori or pickled ginger but I was offered more soy sauce. :/
Honestly can't tell you how disappointed I was in chow mein for yakisoba. I only ate a few bites, picked out the chicken and threw the rest away. I tried but man the sauce was bland. Massive waste of money. The $1 instant Nissan yakisoba packages are a more authentic flavor.
My friends were also deeply disappointed in their choices (though they were happy to find Chinese sausage in their rice). We all picked at out food and...
Read moreFinished a round of golf at Meadow Lakes, stopped at the corral for a beer and dinner before i head back to home (Bend). I’ve gone down the line of the 3 food trucks in this lot, and tried Just Wokn Around for the first time tonight. Boy if i’d have tried it first i’d have never tried the others. I got street tacos and gyozas and the flavor was incredible. A chef myself, i was blown away by the complexities of the flavor and how much she was able to accomplish in a 4 inch taco shell. After trying to convince the owner to come to Bend, i settled with telling her i’ll be back soon. If you’re in prineville, go try it. You’ll be...
Read moreDescription is "Asian fusion food" but a much more accurate description would be the concoctions a hungry and drunk college student might pull together out of their assorted leftovers. Service was good and the food at least didn't make us sick so don't want to give one star, but we'll definitely never be back. Between 4 of us we got 3 different dishes and no one liked any of the three. And for anyone wondering, the "wok sauce" seems to be spicy mayo. Because who doesn't want their stir fry...
