We had high hopes for this restaurant but the food was very bland. I ordered general tao chicken, it was cooked in a sauce that was so heavily molasses based, I couldn't taste anything but the molasses. I also ordered it on the spicy side but it was incredibly bland. My friend ordered orange chicken, mild, and it was flavorless. It had no orange flavor at all, it was like it was cooked in a thickened chicken broth with no seasoning. I may not be an Asian food expert, but this food was not at all like anything I've eaten before. Just flat and 1 taste profile (if that). We took everything home and doctored it up with garlic, ginger, soy sauce and I added red pepper flakes to mine. Does General tao chicken have a molasses base? So weird that my food was basically drenched in molasses. I really liked the layout and atmosphere of this restaurant, but I don't know that I'd risk the food experience again. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was almost empty. I'm not sure if that means anything but we did notice it...
Read moreWow, so disappointing. I have long favored, D. Fong in Bloomington, and the D. Fong in Savage, so I assumed the D. Fong is Prior Lake would be as wonderful. Wow, so sad! And I have been looking forward to General Tso chicken, and it was beyond disappointing. I should have realized something was amiss when the parking lot was empty, the restaurant was empty, but hey the D. Fong name has a great reputation. Also, the food was served almost immediately upon taking the order. I thought it was odd, but it was so overcooked, that I truly believe it was heated over so often that was ready to serve immediately. General Tso Chicken is usually plump nice pieces, what they served was hard tough fried lumps. Was truly awful. I also asked for spicy and it had zero, like seriously zero spice and no flavor. It is difficult to cook a Chinese dish and have no flavor at all. Will not give this place another chance. And will always recommend others to visit the D. Fongs on Hwy 42. Such a sad experience for a get...
