If you have eaten at some of the nicer Italian restaurants you may have already tasted their signature bread. So many delicious choices from the variety of offerings in the freshly stocked dry pastry case, the canollis,zepollas,cheese cakes etc in the cold case, or the savory choices of calzones and personal pizzas. Please don't forget about the best biscotti, hermits, wine, pepper, or egg biscuits, cookie trays or wandis! How could I leave out the top shelf large moist muffins in many delicious flavors. The lady there is knowledgeable and able to give very helpful information of the makeup of each of the treats, breads, and savory selections. The Buono family is faithful, friendly and generous through the years. They've maintained consistency in quality and service through their great baking and serving team. Hartford Ave is the longtime "go to" location for me with that nostalgic bakery feel. This is the headquarters of delicious. However a secondary location on Reservoir Ave in Cranston boasts the same quality and selection in a bright and slightly larger storefront. Buono's is the best in my book!!!!! Read moreThis is not a good bakery. First you have to encounter unsafe conditions on Hartford Avenue usually with reckless drivers while trying to park in difficult on-street parking. Driving up I noticed three police cars and an apparent arrest on the corner of Hartford and Bowlet. Then you notice the unclean windows and displays as you enter into the bakery. Start to notice the dirty floor and sense of unclean throughout the small stuffy bakery space. And then the baked goods...the burnt cornmeal bottoms of the Italian bread, the dating system they have going on with baked goods that are way more than “day old.” Why such toughness of the sfogliatella? And why the lack of friendliness on the part of the staff? An Italian bakery should be a magical place filled with cleanliness, smiling staff, and delicious freshly-made Italian cookies, breads and pastries. Bought $15 worth of goods that I ended up throwing out when I got home...getting back in the car and heading to LaSalle bakery. Clean, friendly, good looking baked goods at another bakery. Rhode Islanders have to learn to stop settling for second and third best. There is better to be had in all areas...
Read moreWhat makes Buono's Italian Bakery exceptional is the fact that they use authentic high quality flours without fillers, etc. Smell any type of bread product and the aroma is reminiscent of old world bread. We buy the pizza strips and freeze for later use. Chock full of spinach in their pies. a variety of hard and soft rolls as well as classic Sicilian. Holidays, no problem - Easter egg braids, Zeppole, the list goes on - a good variety considering the size of their storefront. Customer service is fine. Parking - go early or you're on your own if you come late in the day. You don't like the neighborhood; think NY City or Boston where only the best food and prices are found in working class neighborhoods.
