I've heard of the 12 inch eggrolls and had to see for myself. The place is so unassuming from the outside, giving you more cornerstone vibes than high quality eggrolls. HOWEVER, looks can and were misleading. To start, thinking of a 12 inch eggroll, immediately the thought could be it's just gonna be a big fried hollow pocket. So far from the truth would that assumption have been. For them to be the size they were (legit the size of a 1 liter bottle), they held together amazingly, and were filled to the capacity that it could withstand without breaking. I couldn't make my mind up, so I tried 4 different eggrolls, The Obama, Hot Honey Chicken, Chicken Philly, and Jerk Shrimp. The Obama is a combination of Jerk chicken and steak, that I enjoyed. No overbearing heat, just a nice little subtle progression. The Jerk shrimp was ok, the spice didn't carry throughout this one. The hot honey chicken was good, definitely the sleeper of the bunch I got, wasn't evicting it to be as good as it was. The chicken Philly was by far my fav this go round. Every bite the cheese burst out, the flavor was good from first to last bite. I did myself a disservice not getting extra Jerk sauce though, that I'll fix the next time I go. All the eggrolls held together throughout the eating of them, no breaking apart, no overly oily flavor from being fried too long. Each bite had a crunch from the exterior of the eggroll, which would then be met by the soft, piping hot flavors of the choice of eggroll. Definitely have to try other eggrolls, add well as...
Read moreWasn’t much of an atmosphere to rate, just a walk-in/walk-out situation, if it was done in, that would be different. Service was average, nothing bad in any way. Now, for the food…
I was VERY satisfied! I was in the mood for egg rolls and remembered Tastee from a social media post. Happened to be in between their two locations, but Bellwood showed they offered the Peach Cobbler rolls, so I went there.
I literally just left and got the Philly Cheesesteak, Jerk Italian Beef and two Peach Cobbler.
Philly: Warning, it’s JUICY!!!! and flavorful.
Jerk Italian: The meat was chunky, tender, and flavorful.
Peach Cobb: looked more like sweet potato inside, but what mattered was the flavor, it was def there and thick.
What was THE MOST important to me was freshness, and it was there! Tastee does not “pre cook” 🙌🏾, (unlike one one of their “West Side” competitors). The competitors was very chewy, likely bcse they are pre cooked/frozen.
4 rolls cost me roughly $25, but again, it it worth it to me. I also live near the Tastee 2nd location so I will certainly be frequenting Tastee whenever I’m jones’n for egg rolls from now on. This is now my...
Read moreLook for a spot in a rough area. You get what you get. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired. It felt like a old school mom and pop wing spot from the 60’s. I didn’t really feel welcome, and it just looked grody. What restaurant owners fail to realize is that the only way to maintain customers is food, sevice and atmosphere. And all 3 were subpar. Now I know it’s probably leased but you have to still make it yours and have pride in its appearance. The second thing was food. Execution was lacking so bad i doubt you were the one cooking it. It was super greasy and for an egg roll that’s saying alot. It was rolled incorrectly causing the grease to get inside and THEN it also wasn’t crispy. Well… one side was. How does that even happen. Then my other one was over done. Idk I think you might need to retrain your staff or something because you need community support. I’m only giving you 4 because you’re black and because I understood your vision but...
