We stopped in around 9:40pm on a Saturday evening. The business is new, so it's not surprising that it was so busy. We were able to order quickly at an iPad kiosk...and then we waited for more than 25 minutes to get our single cone. We finally got a text saying our cone was done, and we went to the counter to get it, only to see them throw it away because they had made a mistake. But since they had marked it done, they immediately forgot about our order and then proceeded to make others. We eventually had to remind them to make ours.

As others have said, there's not enough space to sit (at least on a weekend night), so the place is full of people standing around for, again, 20+ minutes waiting for their $8 soft serve cone. When it finally came, we were surprised to see that ordering a strawberry topping meant exactly seven small pieces of strawberry dotting the sides. It was about 1.5 small strawberries. And the amount of Nutella sauce on the outside of the cone was nothing like the pictures that are on the video monitors throughout the store. Obviously there's some advertising at play, but plenty of other similar dessert concepts have the decency to make what they hand you look a lot more like what's on the screen.

How did it taste? Pretty good. But it's just about the messiest dessert I've ever had. The container is barely enough for the cone and then the ice cream towers above it. Every single person in there was clearly having trouble figuring out how to eat it. We ended up with dumping the soft serve into a larger water cup and then trying to eat what was left in the little cup...where there was melted ice cream that kept spurting out according to Archimedes's principle. Both of us ended up with ice cream spraying into our laps.

If I were to go back, I'd probably get just the cone without the ice cream. But that would still cost more than $6.50, and that seems like a huge expense when I can go to Rockwell, get served a lot faster and not get dirty afterward. Plus, they won't charge me a $0.13 "convenience fee" on the iPad or try to force me into tipping before anyone has done anything for me yet.

Finally, I don't know how the name Crispy Cone came to be when it's the LEAST crispy cone I think I've ever...

Order: 2 peach/vanilla swirls with strawberry, one with a cinnamon sugar cone and one with a cotton candy and neither with any spread, 1 cup of peach/vanilla swirl with strawberries

Cost: ~$25

Pros: —nice space —lots of seating inside and out —open pretty late (10pm/midnight on weekends) —ice cream was sweet without being too sweet —soft serve flavor was decent and neither the peach or vanilla tasted super artificial —cones served in a cup held their structure pretty well and the cup catches any drips

Cons: —it took 32min from order to getting my cone with cotton candy when my family got served 10-15min earlier along with another 5-7 people who ordered after me —price-wise definitely NOT family friendly. It cost $25 for two cones and a small cup of ice cream. Before tip be prepared to spend $8/per person if you want to try the cones and ~$4/per person for a cup with one topping. —not quite wheelchair accessible bc though the doors are wide enough there’s no mechanism to open the door, and the ordering tablets seemed a bit high. The complimentary water is definitely out of reach. Theoretically, staff could help you order though. —understaffed: they had two people when they probably needed 3 and workers were so focused on working they didn’t really have the greatest communication or cleaning of the floor happening —every customer touching surface (doors, order screens, etc) was smeared and greasy with finger/handprints and it was gross to touch —you can sit outside and wait for your order, but there’s no sound system for them to call your name. —serving size of soft serve was okay, but not really worth the price compared to other dessert options in the area —cones tasted overproofed and got a weird texture where it was hard to tell if it was undercooked slightly or not —cotton candy cone wasn’t covered nearly as well as the regular ones and wasn’t worth being forgotten over —no dairy-free ice cream option.

Verdict: We tried it once, but it wasn’t a great experience, and there are both better desserts and better ice cream flavors with more variety elsewhere (and Macey’s if you just want cheap soft serve). If you decide you want to try it, save time and order ahead on...

First time this week. The soft serve was really great! It's hard to find good soft serve. The cones were not what I was expecting (was expecting like a warm waffle cone and they're more like a baked roll with sugar dusting) - but they were great! It definitely was a lot of ice cream and a lot of cone - which is a good thing, but it was VERY filling. I've seen some other reviews about messy tables, etc - but it was very clean when we went. I also do like the wet wipes. And I like the 'our story' - great to read/see. A couple of comments for consideration - none of them really an issue. I don't love the self-service tablets for ordering, especially when a place is busy, because it's slower as everyone has to figure out what to add, how to add, etc. But it is what it is. That said, at the 'total' screen - it gives me the subtotal (two cones for $15.38); tax $1.12; and then two line-item fees - a $0.25 'convenience fee' and a $0.15 'restaurant tax' - it's not that the amount is a problem - it just feels kind of nickel/dime and was a distraction. I'd rather just have those fees baked into the price of the cone. Also, adding the toppings was fun - but the reality of the toppings is that you get 3-4 small strawberry slices kind of pushed onto the vertical cone; and a little bit of caramel swirl on the cone itself. A few issues: underwhelming amount of topping on the cone - but a lot of that is probably because it's hard to put toppings on a vertical soft-serve cone. Also, it takes a while to put on the toppings - especially the strawberries. And, as noted in other reviews, it's messy because you have the fruit falling on the table, you have the sauce dripping on hands & table. I love toppings, but feels like there might be other options. All-in-all, a great place and I'll be back - but you should definitely plan on a 'dessert meal' with the portion size. And it's not something that's easily shared - especially for the cone - you will have to kind of wrestle with it to make...

Good ice cream. Good toppings. clean store. There are fundamental structure issues to this treat. We visited in winter and were intrigued by the marketing we'd seen beforehand. The process to order is straightforward using a supplied tablet and menu. Then, we watched the assembly process. They take a house made bread dough base and bake it in the shape of a cone. The result is a crispy exterior, but a doughy interior. Our interiors were slightly under baked. We opted to line the cone interior with cookie butter before the swirl softserve ice cream was put in. Then, the toppings are placed (mushed) into the ice cream with a drizzle of syrup on top. While all the above is deliscious, it comes in a very small cup that is 1/2 the height of the cone and the same diameter of the cone. When I was handed the cone by the worker, before being able to get a spoon or take a bite, the toppings started falling off immediately. My solution was to get to a table quickly and lay a napkin underneath to "catch" the pb cup toppings that fell off. In the process of eating the treat, somewhere between 5-10% of the crushed pb cups fell onto napkin, table, and my lap. The inability to "save" the toppings from touching the tabletop and other surfaces really detracted from an otherwise good experience. The food ingredients taste good. Staff are nice. There's just a frustration feeling like I'm eating it wrong as chocolate fell to the ground. I think it's worth experiencing, but I'm not sure I'll be back....but then again, if there's a paper plate underneath, I might.

I'm honestly really surprised that so many people seem to love this. Anyone who claims this is unique seems to have a relatively uncultured life experience, but maybe I've been lucky. The staff were very kind but the product was honestly really... meh. And charging $8.54 for mediocre soft serve ice cream in an okay cone where no crisp was found despite it literally being the name of the franchise is frankly highway robbery. It was an incredibly messy experience as the ice cream mainly sits on top of the cone instead inside of it. There's way too much ice cream and by the time you even get to the cone you a. don't feel great, b. are covered in your ice cream of choice like your own personalized crime scene, and c. the cone is soggier than a wet dog. To put it lightly. They also just stick the toppings onto it that will melt off if you're not fast enough to the draw. If that is how it's going to be served anyways, a better eating experience (i.e. much cleaner) would be to serve the cone on top of a bed of ice cream. Again, really shocked that the cones are supposed to be the main draw and they were super underwhelming. Also shocked that there are such limited choices for the ice cream itself (which, again, is nothing special) and that this place offers to sell you a pint of their non-special-and-generally-sad ice cream. Obviously, I will not be coming back. If soggy cones and underwhelming ice cream mountains are your thing and you're not a poor college student, you're gonna love this!

Jeremy is on to something here and with a few tweaks will have a sustainable winner. The longer wait time is a happy problem that will diminish somewhat when ice cream lovers split their loyalties with their other favorites. The cones are tasty, fresh, crispy and chewy (5 stars). The huckleberry soft serve was really good - excellent flavor and firm (5 stars). The spreads and sauces are great, including Nutella, biscoff, and Jif (5 stars). The toppings were a bit tricky - our heath bar chunks fell off quickly; other toppings are placed one by one which makes for a nice visual but also slows production (3 stars). The biggest improvement on a truly tasty product would be a cup with a wider top rim to catch the inevitable drips and drops. My photo here was taken seconds after I was handed my cone and it was quickly coming apart which made for a messy treat (3 stars). There’s a single stall restroom so washing my hands wasn’t quick. I instead used a cup of water from the public water dispenser and washed my hands outside over a flower bed (3 stars). The water dispenser is a nice touch, with choice of still or “with gas” (another nod to European tastes) (5 stars). I’m confident there are combinations of spreads, toppings, and sauces that maximize the yum while minimizing the mess. Give Crispy Cone a try. It may not become your favorite ice cream spot in a saturated market like Utah, but it will very likely be one of your favorites.
