I don’t like to ever leave negative reviews however for some reason something completely slipped at our favorite name for hotel stays as a family, residence inn.
We needed a place to relax for the day due to the showing of our home near by. I booked it and left to get the family. Upon walking into the room there was a super heavy smell of urine. Not just a slight scent but a heavy, musty, disgusting smell of urine, like a diaper changing station gone wrong or that hadn’t been cleaned for some time.
Baffled by this first ever experience I went to the front desk and the kind and professional staff looked up the previous tenants and mentioned a dog. What?!
Whoever tried to mask or clean the room prior to our visit missed something. It was gross. Were we just easy money on a weekday to be put into a room where whatever animal let it flow wherever it did?! How could someone not smell that upon cleaning the room up, let alone book a family into the room?!
We were given a free upgrade and moved to a new room per my very polite request and insisting which was expected and also given by the friendly apologetic staff.
My big issue is I had put my family in this hotel and had I not come to inspect, as my family is a bit shy, they would have possibly just stayed in a very grossly urinated room. Whatever quality control that is in place if at all, failed entirely as far as whatever and wherever there was a heavy urine deposit. Just disgusting.
This is the first residence inn where I did not want to ever, that’s a strong word, ever want to come back to and will avoid.
It felt older and not as cleanly run as what we have been used to for years using residence inns as our go to for family stays almost anywhere, as rewards members.
Mistakes happen but this one was quite gross and a shock to me causing me to question what really happens during cleaning of hotel rooms and what company minimum standards are for cleanliness and if those were being met.
Maybe I’m a little ticked because my family endured that for about an hour before I swung by in between showings and was taken by surprise of the gross mustiness of that room, and I did not think we would be put into a room where animals stayed without being notified of the same.
We went from being excited to have a fun stay overnight to all end up going home late after who I gave were done, as our typical excitement for an outing and overnight hotel stay at a usually bright and fancy residence inn was dimmed by that gross experience and what felt like a dimmer place.
The pool also seemed quite dirty and heavily chlorinated, but I’m open to the idea that everything seemed a little more dirty after that gross urine smell.
I get the efforts of updating an older hotel, but this just was too much for us sadly and a first and last for us. We will now ask about animals wherever we go for future stays and will always avoid older Marriotts per...
Read moreTruly a trash motel that should cost fifty bucks a night. Do not believe the photos or any of the good reviews. I was scheduled for a two week stay here, but checked out after one night. The first room I was given was dirty. Smelled terrible (combo of B.O. and cat pee with some rotting food mixed in), and though housekeeping had supposedly been in, the kitchen floor was sticky, the bathroom area floor must not have been cleaned in weeks, there were hairs all over the bathroom drawers and the couch. I tried to convince myself to stay, but finally asked to switch rooms. The second room was a significant improvement, if only because it didn’t smell and was marginally cleaner. Barely. I was referred here because they have a shuttle and free grocery service, so I didn’t rent a car. When I asked about the grocery service, I was told they recommend people use instacart, because it’s their maintenance people who do the groceries and they can’t always do it right away. I said that’s fine I can schedule ahead or won’t do it when I’m in a rush. The answer was still, we just recommend instacart. After managing to sleep one night, in the morning my toilet clogged (full disclosure it was just a pee, nothing crazy); when I called down to ask for maintenance I was told they weren’t on site because it’s the weekend. After much back and forth, they were going to come HOURS later and I was offered the hotel lobby bathroom as a solution (the lobby is technically in a DIFFERENT BUILDING, so I would have had to walk outside to get there). While waiting for maintenance, I looked up alternative places to stay and checked out immediately. There’s more, but I doubt anyone is still reading! If you’re referred here by cognitive fx, don’t fall for it - there are plenty of things at comparable prices!!
TL;DR: unclean, mismanaged, front desk are very kind but can’t do much, amenities advertised...
Read moreI am not one to complain and/or ever write a negative review, however I felt this stay warranted honest feedback.
The area of town this hotel is in was fantastic. The curb appeal was also appealing and created my family’s excitement upon arrival. We were greeted immediately and in a friendly manner and were optimistic of our one night’s stay. Parking was easy and the room was close by, and all things were going well until we stepped into the building in which our room was located. Upon entering the building were welcomed with a revolting odor. This was not an odor that went away but a lofting odor that was ever present and seeped into your luggage and cloths. Still trying to air out my luggage days later. In addition, the floors in the halls felt gross and squishy, it was quite nauseating. I image the smell was coming out of the foul carpet. We had to sleep with our window open despite it being loud outside during the late night and early morning hours.
In addition, when we got to our room, it was apparent it had not been cleaned. There was even a glass on the counter with mouth marks on it. I ended up sanitizing the room myself.
All in all, the amenities seemed decent, however, no one wanted to leave the room because we knew we would be greeted with the nasty hall odor and disgusting carpet.
I write this because I am extremely disappointed. For the cost of the room (double the cost and half the quality of the room we had stayed in the night prior) it was a rip off.
This is a Marriott in a good part of town in Provo. Shame on the owners and management for allowing that smell. Shame on them for also not having enough quality control to ensure the rooms are not cleaned as well. What a shame and...
