Decided to try this restaurant per a friend's recommendation that is a chef. Coming back from Sangre De Cristo mountains and wanted something on the way back. 4PM perfect time during the week along with not crowded & before rush hour crowd. Hungry for a hot meal and early night heading home tomorrow. Greeted as soon as we walked in by delightful hostess or waitress, not for sure, but all the same welcoming. Brother was tickled with the Senior Menu as he just turned 60 this year. Layla, our waitress was friendly and answered all our questions with friendly attention. Love that almost all places in Colorado have Raspberry Tea. It's the best. Finally found out the brand, it's Fuse Raspberry Tea, thanks, Layla. Little brother had the Beef Stroganoff with loaded baked potato and broccoli. I decided on their two on one plate combo: Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken Tenders, with White Gravy and blacked eyed peas. Hilarious the name of the restaurant, and I get black-eyed peas, but I'm truly disappointed with them. Salty and no real flavor from the peas, maybe jazz them up with pork or ham. I expected them to be spectacular. The Chicken Fried Steak would probably be great if it was thicker. Now the chicken tenders were so delicious, breading was tasty along with crunchy and thicker amount of chicken. The honey mustard was yummy big time. I definitely would stop back in just for the Chicken Tenders as their the best I've ever eaten too. Forgot, the bread & butter they brought out to us it was Lukewarm needed to be hotter hopefully not microwaving them. There are homemade rolls, but they need to be warm enough to the taste and enough for butter to melt. Overall, it is a little pricey, but the food is worth a stop when needing a home style meal on the go. They have weekly specials, too. Thursday is Chicken N Dumplings. Big Shout Out to Layla for great service & helping me get my service...
Read moreI wish I didn't have to give it stars in order to write a review because this experience doesn't deserve any. The waitress was nice enough but under-experienced, in my opinion. I ordered fried cod, which was delicious, and the portion was too big for me. There were two very large filets so I took one home. It came with a choice of two sides, so I got fried okra and a Cesar salad. The okra was good, but there was so much dressing on the salad that the croutons became sponges, making them soggy. My husband ordered chicken fried steak with French fries and red beans and rice. The steak had soft, under-cooked breading, which we brought to our server's attention and were met with, "oh, I'm sorry" with no offer to re-do it, discount the meal or anything. He loves chicken fried steak, but he could only stomach about one-fourth of this one. Believe me, he has a healthy appetite. In addition, she never came back to refill our drinks or clear plates from the table. We still had the complementary bread plates on the table when she brought the bill. My food was acceptable, except for the salad. She brought the ticket and told us she would be our cashier and we still had all of the dishes on the table. My fork was filthy, so I needed a new one. I was facing the kitchen and could see at least eight employees, but not one of them would make eye contact. My husband got up and got a clean(er) fork from someone other than our server. She wasn't in view. I don't think I have to say it, but it was the worst time I've ever had at The Black-Eyed Pea. For the cost of their food, I prefer to eat elsewhere. We don't go to town that often so this trip was planned and we were looking...
Read moreAnother Pueblo restaurant for the elderly who have lost their taste buds. First and last time for me. Extremely slow service. Lost orders. Salty pork chops. Dry ribs. Congealed mayonnaise. Applesauce in a motts container. Microwaved and hard to cut through baked potatoes. It took 15 minutes just to get water to the table and then another 5 minutes for the Pepsi. Customers were joking with one another across tables about how slow the service was and the family of five behind us had their entire order lost after having been there an hour. We almost got up and left but didn't want to be rude. The food was terrible so we asked the waitress if the chef was new and she didn't know. My table didn't get drinks until after we had our salads finished. That's a long time to wait for first drinks. The wait would have been okay if the food was at least decent but it just was terrible. It was cold as well. I think the waitress just completely forgot that it was there. The waiter at the table next to us was doing a great job with his tables. It feels like we just made a donation to their restaurant because we didn't eat most of the food and didn't even bother to take the rest home. What a waste! Such a shame! Pueblo is such a cute town but the caliber of food is lacking and the service professionals need a lot more training. The poor waitress had no idea what she was doing unfortunately. Just a nice young girl who needs to be trained. I still tipped even though I really shouldn't have. Like I said just a donation to the restaurant cuz nothing was really edible and the service was...
