Went there specifically for NY System Weiners. Let me say up front that I've been eating Weiners for 65 years. I'm 70 now.
They "think" or "say" they serve NY System Weiners but they're not. They even talk the talk. "All the way" 🤣 Close, but not correct. All the flavors are off and the buns aren't steamed. The meat sauce was a lighter color, I couldn't taste the celery salt......NO MUSTARD at all, the onions aren't the finely chopped sweet. I'm not sure if the Weiners are the veal and pork combo or not. All the other flavors being off so much might have tainted the dog flavor too. The Weiner ends were in fact cut off square as if they were the real deal......but I'm not sure. Not a bad chili dog but not a NY System. They either cut corners on the recipe or not buying from authentic distributor(s) in Rhode Island. The picture attached is one of three. (I can't believe they'd send something looking like that out) It was the worst of three. As you can see there's no mustard. I had to ask for more onions and celery salt. This time I could "see" the celery salt, but it still wasn't good 😔 I thought it was too good to be true to have them in CT. Huge disappointment. Oh well.
Now on the other hand. The New England clam chowder was excellent 👍 Not like wallpaper paste I've gotten some places. Could be the best I've ever had 💪 My wife got a great turkey sandwich on a very fresh bulkie roll and she said the turkey tasted like fresh turkey. Very nice 👍👍 The rest of the menu looks good and we'll be back for sure. *Just no counterfeit...
Read moreI’m really disappointed with my experience at Henry’s Diner today. My dad and I placed an order at 12:17 and were told it would be a 25-minute wait. We waited the full 25 minutes before going inside. I paid (great price — $21 for a large pepperoni pizza and small fries), and the man at the counter was super nice, told me it’d be just a couple more minutes, and said I could sit anywhere.
After about 10 more minutes, I noticed the oven wasn’t even on. The receptionist checked and realized my ticket never printed out. He apologized and said it would be another 10 minutes but at that point, I had already been waiting 45 minutes.
When the pizza was finally being made, the cook drowned it in sauce and piled on what felt like a pound of cheese. I asked another cook to make sure it was pepperoni, not just cheese because the guy forgot to add it. so he added pepperoni on top and then threw even more cheese over it. By the time it was finished, I had waited an hour.
The fries were amazing (as always), but the pizza was honestly inedible. It was so overloaded with cheese and sauce that it completely fell apart when I picked it up. Just last week I had a pizza here that was excellent well-balanced and delicious so I don’t understand the inconsistency.
The staff were polite, but the lack of communication and the poor quality of today’s pizza made the whole experience really...
Read moreThe great reviews brought us here. We thought we'd find something special and, with one unfortunate exception, we did. We loved the menu, the atmosphere and the excellent service. The coffee was good and hot. The food was pretty good too, but it was way too salty. My wife noticed it too. Even the toast was salty. How does that happen? It wasn't the sausages and it wasn't the bacon. In fact, both of those were outstanding. It wasn't the French toast either. That was fine. It was the fried eggs, the hash browns and the toast... all very, very salty.
Because we like the place, we are going to try it again. I will order dry toast. That should solve the salty toast issue. I will also try the home fries in lieu of hash browns. I suspect they will be a bit less salty. Most importantly, I will ask for NO SALT on my eggs and see if that works. I can order my eggs cooked any way and be happy, so that should help.
We really do want to like this place. The location, the people and the service are great. If we can solve the salty food problem, we will be...
