I had high hopes for McKays. Parking was ok. And we got seated pretty quickly. I ordered the most expensive item on the breakfast menu (I was really hungry). Then came the very long wait which was still ok. Then our meal was delivered to an adjacent table. It wasn't until the folks at the table called the server over and then they took it off the other table and brought it to us. Im not very keen on getting an order that was already dropped at another table (if it was still in the servers hands ok but this wasn't that) When I asked the order to be remade - my server stated it would take a long time. My wife was ready to eat shoe leather and took her plate anyway. A few minutes later a 3rd server brought me my order and said it was remade. No apologies, nothing. My original server apparently didnt want to bother us so I had to get up and grab a 2nd set of silverware since I wasn't given one. I was also missing the French toast which was part of my order. We got the bill, paid it and left. Still no apologies from anyone. I never raised my voice. I know my server saw me get the silverware from. Another table as she immediately put a fresh set on it after I took it. There were enough people involved that I would have expected management to at least come over. I dont think ill be...
Read moreI found McKay's because my boss was in town and wanted to meet for breakfast in the Quincy area. I yelped breakfasts around and this one had good reviews (and accepted credit cards, which was not the case for many others).
Setting/Vibes: Typical diner set-up when you walk in with wooden tables in separate rooms for bigger groups. The kind of place that has the pre-packaged jelly on the table.
Food: I thought the menu was small which I usually like but almost too small. I wanted an omelet with a bunch of different meats and veggies but most had either meat or veggies. There wasn't an option to customize your own omelet but maybe I should have just asked. I ended up ordering a bacon and cheese omelet with home fries and wheat toast. The omelet was good but not to the level I would expect from a homey diner like this. The bacon strips in the omelet were too big, I would have preferred the bacon be chopped up and more ingrained in the eggs than separate from them. Home fries were well-spcied. The toast wasn't great. Low-quality bread which made it end up soft and floppy...would have preferred more crispy toast.
Service: Friendly and attentive
Overall: Good experience, we had a bunch of space for 6 people to sit, but not my...
Read moreFood was very good but definitely not a veteran friendly place. I went there on Veterans day to pick up my food and asked if they have a military discount. The lady immediately responded with a short "no". Well, it's their business after all, so the fact that they didn't have a military discount didn't bother me at all (although I am pretty sure she would have been able to provide one if she wanted to).
What I didn't like was the fact that she seemed completely oblivious about it, and she that didn't care to say "thank you for your service" on Veterans day to someone that showed their military ID. In fact, I was the one that said "thank you" as I walked out while her eyes were fixated on the TV and didn't even respond.
I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and believe that she just didn't hear me. Regardless, there seem to be no appreciation for veterans and service members at this place....
