Super busy and only a handful of parking spots out front, but the food was delicous and people were willing to wait for it.
Adobo Chicken with rice and, I think, Ginisang Repolo: delicious, but the chicken was LOADED with tiny bones. Much of it was bone, and, me being fragile, I couldn’t eat much of it (I actually may have chipped a chip tooth more, despite my great efforts to feel for bones before biting down). The seasoning and whatnot was fabulous, but I don’t like risking chipping a tooth to eat. If the chicken was chicken breast or something with more meat and less bone I would have enjoyed. I know eating primarily muscle tissue only is not the way of much of the world, so I accept that, and the food was good.
Turon: spring roll/rice paper stuffed with banana and jackfruit and fried in a sweet sauce.
Halo Halo: literally means “Mix Mix,” and is layers of sweetened chickpeas, red and/or white mung beans, candied palm seeds, macapuno (coconut sport) strips, jackfruit, saba bananas in syrup, coconut jellies, tapioca pearls, sweet potato cubes, and of course shaved ice.
I do hope today isn’t how it normally is: as in the time it took me to run and get my credit card from the car, the wait went from “you’re next” to “45 min later”…
But the gentleman who waited on me was incredibly kind, and the food was delicious.
So glad we get to try Filipino food here in MA :-). And it was a good price too!
I also am now on the hunt for a type of coconut I didn’t know existed!!!
The macapuno...
Read moreYou wonder what makes this restaurant a straight 5 star-rated restaurant, in its 2 years in business. Let’s start with the most important, its food. It’s definitely authentic. They have a wide selection of well loved Filipino food : lechon kawali, sisig, tortang talong, pinakbet, sinigang, adobo, pancit bihon, pancit palabok, tokwa baboy, the list goes on. Not only do they offer these dishes, they offer variety of protein selection for each dish like tofu sisig, lechon sisig, Bangus sisig. The ingredients are fresh (scallions and peppers are the greenest of green) and flavorful. Service is friendly, personal and genuine. The co-owner who is Jamaican mans the front of the order counter, brings out the plates and utensils, engages in chatter; tells us his wife is co-owner , the cook, Filipina whom he met in Manila. Then when it came to clearing tables, we got polite table service, it’s family run so the stepson came out and gave us to go boxes and bag. When we ordered halo halo, it came out so perfectly layered, filled to the lid with white bean purée, red beans, lychee jelly, ube ice cream - the works! Wonder no more, this place is legit and authentic - snd it’s not just the food but the hospitality, the ambiance… it’s everything you’d expect from a great...
Read moreThis was a spontaneous decision that I do NOT regret. While doing a consultation at a docs office in quincy, I was starving and searched google for nearby options for food. Though i hesitated to try this place, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I finally made it home and devoured the food. Unlike some reviews which claimed the food was salty, that was not my experience. Majority of the oxtails were extremely tender, sauce was flavorful and i truly enjoyed eating it with the plantains. The cabbage was not as exciting but that was small in comparison to the pros. I was also pleasantly surprised that despite my last minute call in for the pancit, even though he told me it would take 15 to 20 minutes, they were able to have it ready earlier so that I did not wait (please note I arrived in about 7 minutes from the point of when i called). The man who was packing my meal seemed super kind and down to earth and I really appreciated the warmth of having a sincere conversation about his starting the business during the pandemic. I highly recommend people supporting...
