If you love a noisy/cozy dive bar feel (With a generally loud atmosphere) the inside seating at Sly Fox is for you! If you enjoy being outside and people watching, they have that covered too with seasonal outside seating that takes over their small parking lot in the warmer months!
I've been here multiple times for drinks and dinners in the evenings and for lunches in the summer months. I always sit outside when possible. The outside has a covered tent and large flat screen TV that they play games on. Inside tends to get really loud at peak times so it can be a challenge to have a conversation. Inside is bar seating, one booth and a few high top tables. Large groups would need to sit outside or be content to sit separately for actually eating.
If you are outside service can be a bit slow but it is a small place with a small core staff who are always friendly and accommodating. Rest rooms are small and located inside near the side door and bar.
The food is really good here. I can highly recommend the Chicken Curry (Split half with rice half with fries). I enjoy curry but never seek it out. However, this has turned me, and I have since come back here just for that! The portion is heaping and the food delicious. My go-to drink in this bar is a half Guinness half Magners Irish Cider (Snakebite). I can also recommend their tacos, pizza and steak tips.
Parking can be a bit of a run around. In winter there is a small lot attached to the building and no outdoor seating. In summer there is street parking all around so it is a bit of a hunt to find a spot but do-able. There is also a tiny green space across the street, if you want to stretch your legs after you eat.
Even though its a bit too loud for me inside on a crowded evening, just know that if you go during a less popular time, it won't be nearly as intense. This is a small, sometimes loud, potentially crowded, local neighborhood bar that is a staple for the Quincy Crowd. If you are in the area - absolutely...
Read moreWas just in the Sly Fox earlier today, and I'd be misleading anyone if I stated that it was anything save this excellent, splendid and very authentic little Irish pub, thoroughly cozy and relaxing as it was. Loved it!
For it was filled with roughly 20 Old World patrons whose Irish brogues filled the atmosphere, along with this fine admixture of thoroughly old school Irish and modern day American characteristics, such as a plaque commemorating its strong Old Country quality, along with a few scattered Irish and American style symbols that make it unique and welcoming-- (this autographed picture of Tom Brady and Teddy Bruschi adorns the wall to the right of the front door, while a framed Irish soccer jersey rests upon the wall to its immediate right, all of which adds on to the distinctive flavor of the place!)
I would highly recommend the Sly Fox, as it's very cozy, slightly understated in its unique Irish feel in this manner that actually makes it seem and appear even more authentically Irish, more Old World, and more relaxing, all while maintaining this strong neighborhood oriented vibe, and West Quincy type feel to it.
The Sly Fox is also very, very refreshing, and clean, featuring this modest array of various beers whose prices are well within the realm of reason! And it's typically Irish flavored WITHOUT BEING TOO Irish (the various patrons excepted!). Check it out (further proof that Quincy does a better job preserving and perpetuating its Irish culture and stamp than any other city in the United States,...
Read moreSo my experience at the Sly Bar was not a good one. I went in on a Friday night around 11:50pm.The place was packed the Basketball game was on, it seemed like everyone was having a good time.I waited about 2 mins, which isn't that long to actually get the bartenders attention.I simply asked for a Long Island Ice Tea. The bartender replied "We don't Do long Islands here". That alone made me leave. How is that Even Possible? you simple Mix a couple of Rums together with a little bit of mix, and that's your Long Island Ice Tea. My confusion is why "don't you do long Island Ice Teas there?" it's a drink, with alcohol. Alcohol that I believe the sly fox has in their inventory. All it takes is a little bit of effort. I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you enjoy a good Long Island.. The Bartender doesn't realize that me and my girlfriend was in the same bar. A week ago and ordered 2 long Island Ice teas. and a different bartender made them with no problem. and they were Great ! Hmmmmm.. that's kinda Odd. So in conclusion I rated the Sly Fox, a 1 star because I been in the place twice, and received 2 total different services. I'm assuming by my experience that i had at the Sly Fox, it depends on the bartender you actually asked to make your drink. I don't know about you, but I don't have time to play the guessing game. I just want...
