The food seemed not really Thai food. The taste of the food is not very authentic as I expected. Beef hot pot consisted of various beef innards, a slice of beef and some bean sprouts, which was not the same as the menu’s picture. Also, the container for the hot pot was with the picture in the menu. The beef hotpot soup base is loaded with MSG and sugar. The Hainanese chicken breast rice (dinner option +$5 extra compared to the lunch option) and the Hainanese chicken thighs rice (dinner option +$5 extra) came with some chicken livers, which were not the same as the menu’s pictures. Then I read the Google reviews and I found others only had one or two pieces of livers while we had a column of them. I was not sure if that’s the difference of the lunch and dinner options. We was told by the waitress that the dinner option would contain double portions of meat. My mom and my sister who ordered the Hainanese chicken rice didn’t want to eat any chicken livers, but they didn’t waste the chicken livers (my dad ate all of them). My sister who ordered Hainanese chicken breast rice told me that the chicken breast was overcooked and there’s some water underneath. We were very thirsty after eating. The whole restaurant was basically only one waitress and she’s in the kitchen most of the time. We asked for adding some water and napkins and she gave us some napkins from the counter quickly but didn’t come back for the water. One thing I have to mention was the air conditioner next to the first table in front of the cashier counter. That air conditioner suddenly leaked. The water was leaking to the chair first and then bounced off my back (thankfully only a little). When we finally told the waitress, she pulled the chair away and brought a small basin for the water. The air conditioner leaked the rest of our dinner time. I was not sure if that’s the reason why the temperature was a little high in...
Read moreThe food here was pretty solid, and it seemed like some frequent visitors already knew the workers, which was an indication that this establishment has good food that made people return. The menu had a mixture of dishes from not just Thailand but other parts of Southeast Asia as well. My friend and I picked the most popular dishes, and they were pretty good in my opinion.
The Khao Man Gai, which was basically Hainanese chicken with both fried and regular versions, had some good sweet sauce and the fried chicken pieces had good texture. The regular chicken and dip were a bit plain, but didn't affect the overall experience. The Khao Kha Moo, which was basically rice with pig feet, had very good flavor and texture, as the pig feet meat was very tender. Having an egg on the side along with a sauce was also very nice. Finally, the tom yum soup had a bunch of stuff in it that I have not seen before in tom yum soup yet, like peanut bits, and the flavor was good, even though I personally would've prefered it to be stronger on the sour side.
Many of their dishes look really authentic on the menu which I believe are their biggest selling points, so if I happen to be around the area, I would love to try their other dishes. They are very heavy on pork, though, so I can see an issue for someone who doesn't eat meat to not have a lot of...
Read moreThe restaurant is an absolute delight.
Here are the highlights:
We started with a couple of soup appetizers, wonton soup and tom yum soup. The wontons, filled with shrimp, packed great flavor without being too fishy, and had generous chunks of bok choy in the broth. As for the Tom Yum soup, it was authentically Thai – a spicy, tangy broth loaded with mushrooms and chicken. The spice level was perfect.
For our main dish, we got the Moo Daeng, a Thai BBQ pork dish which was excellent. Combination of sliced BBQ pork and pork sausage, accompanied by a side of rice, a soy egg, crunchy cucumber, soybean paste sauce, and dark soy sauce.
The staff was another highlight of our visit. They were friendly, accommodating, and took the time to explain the menu. Their recommendations were spot-on!
There was absolutely nothing to fault about Yaowarat Road . Between the incredible food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices, our experience was nothing short of fantastic. I am looking forward to our next visit to explore more of their menu. It's unquestionably...
