I don’t really leave poor reviews ever, but felt this was worthy of one. It seems our experience may be an exception to the rule, so take it with a grain of salt. We came in on a Monday AM and were the first in line (several came in immediately after us). The two workers behind the counter didn’t acknowledge us and were doing things that seemed relatively unimportant (cleaning some trays, stocking some items, etc.). We waited for a bit. Then, one of them took our order and immediately went back to doing the things he was doing. Someone else came in, placed an order to go and somehow skipped the other people behind us? We then waited some more while the people behind us ordered. Finally, the second worker asked us to check out - we told him what we ordered and paid. We didn’t get our food. We stood there wondering who was going to get our food (two pastries) and when we would get it. At this point, it was a while. Finally, the first guy remembered we were there and re-asked us what we ordered. He then proceeded to hand me an item that we hadn’t ordered and said the one I ordered was no longer there (someone BEHIND me ordered the last one). Wtf?!? So we ordered first, yet were served last and because of this, we didn’t get what we wanted. I have dietary restrictions and food allergies so what I ordered was pretty specific. Then - we didn’t get napkins and when we went back up to ask for them, my husband was blatantly ignored. Just an insane experience. I wish I could say the food made up for it, but the pastries were not the...
Read moreUPDATE BELOW: The food and service is great. The prices are definitely aimed at only tourists. $17+ for 8oz of coffee (wasn’t amazing) two sugar donuts and a quesito with a bottle of water is excessive. It’s sad that the purpose is to cater to non locals only. Lower the prices on the basic bakery items and find a balance between tourism and local community. Another business that joins the gentrification plan.
Update: once again I gave them another chance, and once again I was let down. You can state that your mission is to cater to tourists and locals, but your actions say the contrary.
The price of “una libra de pan” and a cup of coffee that isn’t well made is more than other bakeries that are in the same area and the price for other items are also higher than other great spots on the SAME STREET. This is exactly why this establishment is empty most of the times when it used to be a bustling spot, full of BOTH tourists and locals.
They have recently added the option to order at a screen, I wasn’t allowed to proceed with my order unless I added a tip … for a loaf of bread.
When I went to the counter, even the employee seemed to notice and be embarrassed.
I have continued to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt. But at this point I’m giving my hard earned money to the wrong people.
In my opinion, no, the price does not reflect the quality. Taking a well established local spot and transforming it into something attainable only for a certain demographic...
Read moreThis was a nice-looking bakery outside of El Yunque, and we were hungry so we decided to give it a try. Very nice atmosphere but the food was kind of underwhelming. We took a guava pastelillo and a croissant. Pastelillo was quite good, if I had to nitpick, it was a little strong, but it was still enjoyable. The croissant felt a little stale; not quite the good fluffy quality. Prices were reasonable. What really put us off was the fact that several of their items were bought from Costco, but they have just removed the outer packaging and put their own branding on it. Costco sells these boxes of macarons with 6 flavors and 6 of each flavor. These boxes are ridiculously cheap ($9-12) and very good. Amor+Harina saw that and had bought some of them, removed the outer box, and put their own sticker on the inner box, selling it as if it were their own product. The same story was with their madeleines, which were taken outside of the main box and sold individually wrapped. Overall, service was quite friendly, just a little slow. Their English was not that great but enough to get along. The best part was definitely the atmosphere; very clean and modern, which is what first attracted us to the place. Only complaint was there was no Wi-Fi, which you would expect to have in such a nice place. Below I have attached the photo of "their" macarons, and the same macarons which we have gotten...
