Captain Stanley is a Raleigh eatery staple. This is the one place that could be counted on for great food, great prices, even greater people (staff) and best in class service!
Service: This eatery opened it's window for phone and take out only orders when other places were locked up tight and didn't know how to adapt to changes. The staff practiced safety even when there was only a hand full of workers putting heat to the pots and good on the take out trays. Whole house cleaning three (3) times per day not including opening closings, double masks, head covers and double nitrile gloves for every person in the building no matter what their job was. Window staff changed masks and gloves after every 15 customers.
Focus: This is the first time I've ever used the "Focus" rating but here goes. Captain Stanley's staff didn't do the above because they were scared of catching anything but fresh seafood. They did it because the hungry people of Raleigh, Garner, Knightdale and even Cary wanted something great to eat that would be safe to take home to our families. The focus was on the customers! This eatery has a long and strong history of servitude and nothing like COVID 19 was gonna break their stride.
Some have said that they did it for the money. Well yeah!! That the other reward for being good at what you do. But check this out. Come closer cause I'm gonna tell you a secret. They didn't raise the price on a single menu item although one of their vendors charged them more for their goods. So, if you think they braved the elements, insults (there's always one a day. Was it you?) and COVID just for some money, then you might wanna just stay home and eat "couldaben good food".
I highly recommend Captain Stanley's restaurant for lunch or dinner. Great place for a date or business meal but, I would ask for extra napkins on those occasions cause you will be licking...
Read moreI'm from close to the coast of NC and while in Raleigh I was in the mood for seafood. I normally won't get seafood from anywhere other than around home because I've had bad experiences with landlubbers seafood before. I just had a gut feeling about Captain Stanley's and decided to try it. This is how the story goes...I was confined to my car in a back brace. I pulled up to the door and tried to get out and it was way too painful. I hesitated but thougt if I called in my order and explained my situation that maybe we could strike a deal where they would bring it to me in the car. That's exactly what happened. The lady who took my order was so kind and told me they would take care of me. Within moments the cashier came out and got my payment. She said my order would be right out. My order was brought to me by the sweetest lady. The bag with my plate was awfully heavy but I assumed it was the cups of sauces. Nope! When I open the plate I was truly surprised at the amount of food. There was more than enough for 2. I got shrimp, oysters and clams. Back home I normally get 6 small oysters, just a few clams and a decent amount of shrimp. I had to know how many oysters were on my plate. People I counted 12 large ones. Loads of clams and a generous serving of shrimp. It was all piping hot too. Going to Captain Stanley's was not a mistake. I was more than pleased. The food was better than my hometown favorites. Maybe next time I'm in the mood for excellent seafood from a great place I will make the 2 hour trek and land at Captain Stanley's. Don't let it fool you! Best seafood ever and I eat a lot of seafood. Thank you to the staff, who made what could have been an unpleasant experience a very pleasant experience. I'll...
Read moreIf your travels bring you to the Raleigh NC area, treat yourself to down home and authentic Southern seafood at Captain Stanley’s on Wilmington Road. My family and I were in town for our daughter’s graduation from UNC Chapel Hill. You will experience a Southern restaurant that reminds you of home. Many families of varying sizes will surround you. The food is unquestionably good as the locals flood the place indicating the authenticity of the food and it’s tastiness.
My wife and I had the fried croaker platter with side salad and lima beans. We forgot how bony that fish is. Be prepared to sacrifice time to enjoy a well seasoned and tasty fish. That meal brought back so many memories as I grew up in the Carolinas eating fried croaker on white bread and smothered with French’s mustard. Regrettably, the lima beans were rather overcooked thereby depriving them of any nutritional value or crunchy texture to accentuate your meal.
Nonetheless, a trip to Captain Stanley’s is worth your effort as you will not be disappointed. The takeout line is yet another indication of the good food that they serve.
Lastly, one of the major highlights of your meal is the respectful, considerate, attentive and gracious wait service. The young lady who waited on our family was most impressive as she exhibited a very pleasant disposition. Plus, other waiters and waitresses would ask if we needed anything as they passed the table. Good food, a polite Southern setting and good treatment await you when you arrive at Captain Stanley’s on Wilmington...
