Food Exploration in North Carolina - Raleigh's Gourmet Street

We were excited to try this restaurant on a rainy afternoon. Two families, each with two kids, decided to dine together. Upon entering, the owner informed us that the restaurant does not allow parties of more than five people for dine-in. Fair enough — we respected that and immediately offered to sit separately at two tables. To make the process easier (there was only one self-ordering kiosk), we placed one order for all the food — no discounts, no “sharing,” even identical dishes were ordered in duplicate. But shortly after ordering, the owner came out and said we still counted as a single “party” and could only do takeout. We offered to re-order separately, again stating we were happy to sit apart and dine as two independent tables. But the owner insisted that because we “came in together,” we were one party in his eyes — and that was final. He pointed at a sign and said, “My restaurant, my rules.” He’s absolutely within his right to run his business as he sees fit. But I think it’s also fair for potential customers to know that this restaurant does not welcome groups larger than five, even if you follow their rules, sit separately, and offer to place separate orders. Also, be aware that the restroom is “out of order” (there’s a sign for that, too). I’m sharing this experience not out of anger, but because it raises a question that might matter to others: Is this policy really about group size — or about families with young children? Our kids were seated, quiet, and well-behaved the entire time. We weren’t there to create noise or trouble. Just to enjoy a meal together. If you’re planning to visit as a family or group of friends — especially with kids — you may want to think twice.

This is my second time at Chicken Bee, first time at this location! The Supreme Chicken was phenomenal and crispy, the whole chicken was more than enough for my husband and I to share and have some to take home. I would say the flavor was sweet, savory, with a good amount of heat. The combination of the crispy skin with the thick sauce was incredible. The Tteokbokki was mind blowing to try. I’ve been desperate to try it and I have to say, it is completely worth it. The texture alone was unlike anything I’ve had and the flavor was delightful as well. Definitely on the spicy side, but nothing intolerable and the flavor absolutely makes the spice worth it. It’s not super fishy at all if that’s keeping you from trying this amazing dish. The portion on this was also generous. The little games on the side are cute and worth a shot. We were able to both win something and it was fun. The price could be off putting to some but if you approach this with more of a sharing aspect vs individual meals, it’s much easier on the wallet. The whole chicken + Tteokbokki was enough for a lunch and we’ll be enjoying this for dinner as well. The staff is super friendly, polite, and helpful. The ordering station, tables, and games were all clean as well as the facilities. We can’t wait to come back!!

It doesn’t deserve the 4.8 in all means.

The food tastes weird where the chicken has blood taste. The sauce also taste weird. Overall i can see they out an effort in making the sauce and making the chicken both crunchy and juicy, but the flavors aren’t good. One other decent thing about it is they give big portions for the price.

In terms of service, it’s a self order. I came in not knowing what to do and no one came to help. I began ordering and when the staff came they weren’t really helping. After picking having order and eating it I wanted a take away box but here was no one to ask. I waited for a minute but saw the box behind, realizing the restaurant is self ordering I thought i could get the box alone. However, the staff came at me mad and gave me looks.

Overall, not so good service with weird and blood tasting chicken that also has a weird sauce.

My reply to you: I wouldn’t have lied if the food tastes good and had good service. You can go to the cameras and check yourself without accusing me. Tbh, I’m changing my 3 star to 1 star for your accusation of me lying.

I don’t have that much money man I’m college student and I eat tuna and frozen food most of times. It’s why I took the rest (I wasn’t even full) with me at home, and couldn’t eat it all and threw it away. I’m not the type of person to throw a lot of food away, and me throwing ur food away when I got home indicates that it doesn’t taste good.

And respectfully, it’s my own opinion to say I didn’t like the food. You don’t have to say I’m lying it’s my own taste😂. And your wife told me there were three sauces (thanks cause it was literally written in the menu), she didn’t explain how hot they were or which is best best or gave any help except that the garlic one taste garlic and the spicy is spicy and so on.

Instead of getting mad at my review, revise ur altitude and behavior inside the restaurant and outside and try to improve my man. You are losing costumers by replying the same way you are now....

We ordered from the restaurant at least 10 times in last few months. There was an instance when the chicken was not good so we gave a 1-star rating to that food in Uber eats. Few days later when we again tried to order chicken from that restaurant, a chef (he may be the owner) declined to serve us and yelled at us for that negative review. He was extremely rude and unprofessional.

I had to edit my review to reply to the owner:

If you have the video footage then show the full video. You are the one who charged us because we gave a negative review to your food at uber eats. You are the one who called my wife by name and told us to go somewhere else with extremely aggression. Can someone charge someone for making a bad review for a food? I don't think so. We gave a bad review to a particular food named " original fried half". We didn't like that food that day. Are not customers allowed to say food is bad if its bad? We liked the other items so still kept order from your restaurant. What you have done today was beyond imagination and not expected from a restaurant owner. Now you are threatening me here? I am a PhD student and nothing to gain by giving a bad review to your food. It was bad so we reviewed it as bad. You are welcome if you want to file a compliant against me. You are definitely the one who started all this by behaving rudely to us in the first place. I just fought back and refused to...
