We were visiting family members in Raleigh on Thursday September 7, 2022 when we decided to have dinner at this restaurant. We have been to Nantucket about a dozen times in the past 4 years. We have always found their food to be very good to excellent. Their cakes are pretty exceptional too. The food portions are ample. I’ve even had to take some amount of my dinner home because I couldn’t finish it on many occasions. It’s always been a pleasant treat to have a meal there. That changed on our last visit. We were seated promptly, at our request, on the outdoor patio. The indoor dining area appeared to be mostly full, but not overly so. Our server came to the table within minutes of our seating. We ordered our drinks. It appeared to take a bit longer in waiting for them. Our server came to explain that the bartender was doing double duty and waiting on tables. Indeed we had just overheard him say that very thing to an adjacent table. He stated that “the customer is always right.” He also said to those customers that he was an expert at making martinis. Well, I love a good martini as well as the next person. So I was greatly anticipating mine as that was what I had ordered in the first place. We waited for a few more minutes before our drinks arrived. I was very surprised that the martini arrived half full. I said so to the server. She stated that she was embarrassed to serve the drink the way it was. However, she also did not offer to correct the issue. A short time later, the bartender/server came out to check on his table. He asked about my drink as he was passing our table. My wife remarked that it was a short pour. He picked up the empty glass and said “oh, there must be a crack in the glass.” It was not said kindly or in a joking manner. Again, no offer was made to correct the error. Our meals arrived a short time later. As usual, the food was great. Part way through our meal, our server came to the table with a fully poured martini. She stated that it was a drink made for another customer. She said that the customer refused the drink. She also said that the drink was not put on their table, nor did the customer “touch” the drink. I said thank you when she put the drink on the table. But, as I looked at the drink I realized it was not made the way I had ordered my initial drink. This one was “dirty.” It was pretty obvious to me why it was refused. It was so dirty that it had a deep green tint. I then considered that too many hands may have touched the the drink. I left it on the table. It did not appear to have a crack in it as we left because the drink was as full when we left as it had been when it was delivered. I’m sorry to say we won’t return there. I get it. In this day and age, good service staff are difficult to hire and keep. But, I respectfully suggest that the management can do much better than keep an arrogant unkind front staff person who pays lip service to customers being right and doesn’t realize his behavior is directly proportional to the the success of the restaurant. Good luck to this restaurant in maintaining a loyal customer base...
Read moreFirst of all, I had been to this restaurant once before, but it was for a dinner party and i recalled the food and atmosphere was nice. Today, my son and I had just left his 10a morning sporting event. We did not get to eat before we left the house, because we had to be at the event so early, so we were quite famished after the game. Without knowing this establisment did not serve breakfast food (bc thats what we wanted), we were seated. The waitress immediately let us know that they did not serve breakfast. So we excused ourselves and left. In the parking lot we decided to come back in and just dine as we did not want to drive all the way to IHOP. So we re entered and were seated at the same table. The first thing our waitress greets us with is "MAKE UP YOUR MIND" She thought she was being cheerful/funny, but i did not appreciate her tone. It was almost condescending. Not to mention, she was chuckling and eating on what appeared to be a cracker and had crumbs all around her mouth. I should have known from that point this was going to be a bad idea. But we were hungry and decided to order lunch. We were seated and placed our orders. My son loves burgers so he ordered the classic bacon cheeseburger and fries (he's 15). I am on keto, so i ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. I dont drink soft drinks. We both ordered waters. Both entrees cost no more than $13 each. Needless to say, our fries were luke warm. My grilled chicken sandwich had a odor! When asked about the cake, the waitress made it a point to mention that we each COULD HAVE received a slice of FREE cake if our tab had been $15 each, this after we had already ordered and been served. Next time the waitress might want to express that BEFORE we order, I suggest kindly mentioning "did you know that we give free slices of cake to our patrons who dine for $15 or more?" I mean who knew?????. Our chatty waitress, who i found to be over compensating, surprisingly was very unresponsive. I had to ask for more water, because she never checked on us after serving our entrees to see if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anthing else. Like more napkins. Nothing!! I guess because we were not spending the average $15 per person. IDK. When she did stop by to ask how was everything, when we were 3/4 done. she made a point to say "here is your check, you dont have to pay me right now, but after you pay you can stay as long as you like" WHO SAYS THAT!!! OMG! I wanted to have cake so i ordered a slice. And she blurts out NOW YOU KNOW YOU CANT GET A FREE SLICE BECAUSE YOU DIDNT ORDER A $15 ENTREE. If i was not a Christian i might have used a superlative at that point and said "B#;&/CH You never told me ANYTHING about the F%/\c\g $15 cake deal." Gee. I might have taken advantage? I did speak to the Manager upon leaving to express my discontent. I will not be returning to eat at this place ever again. Very bad experience and poor service. I can afford to buy 25, $15 platters and more!! ...
Read moreThere was an Extremely Rude and Disrespectful Front of the House Manager named Chris! My family and I ordered our food, and when my meal came back stuffed shrimp with crab meat it was not hot! I immediately called the waitress and explained to her the food was not hot, and I wanted my meal hot. After 23 minutes or so my food still did not come out, so I asked the waitress to please get the manager. When the female manager walked up to the table she immediately starting talking and never gave me a chance to say anything! She said , "We are so busy right now" She stated "that the plate was hot and she put her finger in the food" I told her the plate may have been hot, but the food was not hot! She kept on talking and never gave me a chance to explain that I wanted hot food. Every time I began to speak, Chris would cut me off ! I explained to Chris that if the food is not picked up on time, it gets cold after sitting there and walking through the restaurant. The manager was disrespectful and not accommodating! By this time my family had already finished their meal and I told the manager I was not able to eat with my family. She loudly said, " So what do you want me to do cancel the order!" I said yes. On the way out we asked the front desk person for the name of the owner and tried to explain to her how rude and disrespectful the manager had been. We have been coming to this restaurant for over 4 years and had never been treated this way! While we were talking to the front desk person, Chris butts in and starting interfering in our conversation. We asked for the owner's name and she told us it was Jerry Sullivan. She remained yelling at us and told us to leave and that "this is not Burger King you cannot have it your way!." It was so rude and disrespectful until another customer started video taping this incident! We have this incident on tape and the Front House manager rudely talking about Burger King! I am extremely dissatisfied with the way Chris the manager treated me and my family! We will never return here again, because of the humiliating experience we had with the front house manager named Chris! She was cruel, rude and inconsiderate! I sent for the manager to speak to her and she did not allow me to speak, but came straight to the table and starting talking. I sent for her, she should have at least given me the opportunity to express myself with my concerns. It was a horrible experience and I was never able to eat with my family! They had finished their meal and my meal still had not come out! Chris was very insulting to me and my family! Chris does not need to be a manager if she does not have any customer service skills!
