The Hop Yard — Restaurant in Raleigh

We stumbled upon this establishment while looking for music bingo and stayed for a few drinks.

Tucked away in a small strip mall, they serve a good selection of beer on draft, not much in terms of liquor and even less for wine. Of course I would have expected this, being they specialize in beer, I was able to find one very nice porter on draft.

Unfortunately one thing do not offer is a decent level of customer service. A short lived blank stare is considered a greeting, however; if you don't get your words out quickly, plan on waiting a while longer to order a drink or even ask a question. Based on my experience each question I asked was met with a sarcastic answer, which led me to the conclusion that they don't care for questions. I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode, keep to yourself or "NO SOUP FOR YOU"!

I visited the hop yard yesterday. It was my first time there. When going to a bottle shop, or any establishment I choose to spend my hard earned money, I expect at LEAST the bare minimum customer service. I’m not asking to have the red carpet rolled out for me, but say hello to people that walk in. I asked a question about a beer, and was met with an attitude. After I thanked the bartender twice for my purchase, I was ignored. Not a “thank you” even after I tipped, which I shouldn’t have for such shoddy service. Items in this shop are extremely pricey too. I've been purchasing beer at this shop for a while now and wanted to add my review. The owners and staff are always extremely helpful and friendly. They have an extensive knowledge of beer styles and specific breweries. The shop offers 18 different beers on tap, which change frequently and always cover a variety of styles. Even more impressive is the huge selection of bottled and canned beers they offer for sale. I never fail to find something new to purchase and try.
