Another cozy, tiny hole-in-the-wall located just North of the railroad tracks, in a strip mall. I'm not sure when their busiest the most, but you probably want to call in your order instead, and take it home. Another option would be to take it with you to any of the local breweries and enjoy a nice cold beer with it, which is what I plan to do next time I visit. The dining area is maybe 6 feet by 10 feet at the most!! I think I counted 15 seats total. Lucky for my wife and I, we were able to sit down, enjoy our food, and watch a little preseason NFL in español.
I ordered the Pan Con Chicharrón and my wife ordered the Lomo Saltado plate. My "sandwich" was good, nothing out of the norm. It came with sweet potatoes and criolla. The meat was a little dry, but that's what you get with chicharron. Normally I wouldn't have ordered it, but apparently this is the popular sandwich on the menu. It's normally $6 but on Wednesdays it's $5. Some Peruvian places use bolillo bread for their sandwiches, but this place makes their sandwiches using ciabatta bread. It wasn't bad, but the bread makes a big difference. I asked my wife how her lomo saltado was and she responded with "I've had better." Don't get me wrong we still enjoyed the food very much (leftovers were bomb), but unfortunately for Micas, my wife and I have been spoiled to quite a bit of Peruvian places in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles.
Next time I visit Mica's I'm going to try their Jamón Del País sandwich. It was the one I was originally going to try. I look forward to washing it down with a nice...
Read moreI started noticing Chasqui on my Yelp feed activity and saw all the positive reviews so I bookmarked them. I made it down yesterday just before 3PM. Pull in where Big O Tires is on Archibald Ave. They are located in the same plaza where Calle Ocho is, right next to Mexico Lindo. There was another Peruvian restaurant here in the same spot, but Chasqui is brand NEW; they just opened 3 weeks ago with a new owner. Don't get it confused because of the transition. There are a few tables outside and limited seating inside. I also like how they open early too because my husband and I are always up early and tend to eat lunch before everyone else.
I ordered to go since my husband was still on his way home from work. We've had Peruvian food before, but I met the owner while I was there and he helped me pick out some dishes to order.
Papa a la huancaína (boiled potatoes in a creamy huancaína sauce garnished with black olives, white corn kernels and hard-boiled egg) Ceviche (with shrimp, fish, calamari, mussels, corn, sweet potato) Tallarines Verde with Lomo Saltado (green noodles with stir fried beef with onions, tomatoes) Chaufa (Peruvian fried rice with seafood)
Everything is made fresh to order. I sampled some while it was still hot before taking it home. Once my husband got home from work, he tried everything. He really loved the Tallarines Verde and said he would go back again just for that. Customer service was also top notch; my husband and I will definitely be back. Welcome to Rancho...
Read moreI want to share my disappointing experience at your restaurant today. The service was incredibly poor, mainly due to the attitude of the waitress on duty. This isn't the first time we've encountered her rudeness, but previously I gave her the benefit of the doubt, assuming she might have been having a bad day.
Despite the restaurant being empty with only my sister, my son, and myself present, she repeatedly interrupted our meal to clear the table prematurely. This constant hovering made it difficult for us to enjoy our time together. When my sister politely asked her to ensure my son didn't make a mess, given that he's only three years old and we were in a restaurant, her response was dismissive and unsympathetic.
As someone in customer service, her behavior was completely unacceptable. If she finds it burdensome to clean tables, perhaps a different role would suit her better. I'm disappointed to have to say this, but based on today's experience, I cannot recommend your restaurant to others. Discrimination against families with young children should never be tolerated in any...
