Satsuma Sushi Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga

I stumbled into Satsuma Sushi around 8 p.m. after a long day on the road. I'd just gotten a haircut next door at Atmos and happened to notice this little sushi bar tucked into the strip mall. No big sign out front, just a small “reservations only” note in the window. I was about to leave, thinking I’d missed my shot, when a couple walked out grinning ear to ear. I asked them how it was and they said it was some of the best sushi they’d ever had. That was enough for me.

I walked in, no reservation, but there was only one other table. The sushi chef welcomed me, was super friendly, and took great care of me. I ended up housing over $100 worth of sashimi, every single piece was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. This place knows what it’s doing.

A few heads-up: call ahead if you can, and don’t be surprised if the staff seems a little busy or direct. They’re running a tight ship and doing the best they can with limited help. Honestly, I respect the hustle. Times are tough but the quality here is on point.

Me & my husband went for a date night here on a Friday night. Mind you it didn't look too busy but we had a reservation at 7:30pm which we got there at 7:15pm. We were waiting patiently but we saw person after person just walking in and sitting down but they had a please wait to be seated sign. We also had to mention to the waiters we had a reservation and when they were going to seat us & it was already 7:45pm at this point. They finally sat us & there was a big party next to us & they kept getting served plate after plate while we had to wait 2 hours to even get 3 plates we ordered. The waiter said the people at the bar got priority since they were right in front of the chefs but i believe our orders never got put in. They didn't even discount anything for making us wait. Walked into the restaurant and noticed odd smell that was a mix between cleaning products and rotting fish. Was not greeted nor seated, we stood confused looking around while the waitress and chef stared at us and continued to do what they were doing. There were two other groups in the restaurant already eating. We decided to seat ourselves since no one had helped us, we were sitting for ten minutes without service. I went to the restroom which was absolutely filthy and to top it off there was an onion just sitting in the sink.
