Shabu Shabu Zen and Sake Bar — Restaurant in Rancho Mirage

This place goes above and beyond in customer service & food!

As soon as we walked through that door, we were taken care of and our needs were met. The employee pulled our chairs out and sat us down in a matter of seconds. It was our 1st time, so step by step they explained the menu and what to expect. They also gave us a quick trivia about the sake, meats and what Shabu is.

The broth was amazing! The meat was like eating a piece of heaven! The veggies were so crunchy and fresh! The noodles were so soft!

The waitress came to give us more napkins and rice, she politely waited out of frame because she saw we were shooting a video of the food. They removed our dirty dishes quickly, brought us more water without asking, asked us if we needed anymore broth, noodles, veggies, rice and etc.

At the end, as we were walking out the door, they all thanked us for coming in and one of the employees ran after us to give us a sample of the handmade toffee.

Serious issues with service here. They agreed to take big tables and were not prepared and our service suffered. We had to beg random people for water and tea refills, they were never offered once. No one ever asked if we needed explanations of the menu (this was our first time). Service was incredibly slow, and again, no one offered help or explanation of how to navigate the hot pot. We were basically ignored until they needed our table, and then 3 people swooped in to clear the table. Unfortunately, we wanted dessert, and their faces were honestly horrified. They asked us the sit at the end of the bar for our dessert to free up the hot pot table and didn't give us napkins or really make any effort at all. Our original server finally showed up again when it was time to drop off the check (we had seen at least 4 and maybe 5 different people with no rhyme or reason at various times). EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!! We have gone to this restaurant multiple times but will NEVER be going back. We ordered the Sukiyaki and barely got any food. Got a small cup size bowl with barely any food in it, mostly just cabbage. Got one small piece of carrot, one piece of a small tofu chunk, hardly any mushrooms and a spoon full of noodles. They couldn’t even fill the bowl up with rice! We ordered 8 oz. Of steak and it FOR SURE was NOT 8 oz.!! The server had an attitude every single time we asked a question or asked for anything. She was very very rude to us right from the start. Haven’t had that bad of service in a long time! We left extremely hungry and disappointed in the food and service. We feel completely ripped off.
