In search of the best Meatball Sub in Reading, Pa I ordered from Mama’s on Rockland. This place has a reputation for putting out good food and quality service. So I decided to see for myself. I ordered a large meatball sub. On a toasted roll with light sauce & extra cheese. I am not a fan of their fries. I do not like the brand used. They were tasty and the cheese wasn’t watered down like others are. It’s a good fry, but not for me. As for the meatball sub, I was delighted when I was handed the bag because I felt two containers which meant my sandwich was in a container. As I said before, wrapping a meatball sub in paper/foil is such a bad thing. When I opened the container, my nose hairs began to dance as I was greeted with a scent of 🧄. I inhaled very deeply to take it all in. This sub was the best smelling hot sandwich I’ve ever smelled. I don’t know if they put garlic on it or if the employee had garlic in the hands before making my sub, but boy oh boy it smelled delicious. The sub was beautiful. The cheese was melted perfectly and the amount of sauce was just right. If you know me, you know that I am not a fan of red sauce on hot sandwiches because most places do the bare minimum and don’t add webs and spices to their sauce. As was the case of “Corner Mart” located at the former V&S location on 9th street. BTW Google has yet to add that business so I cannot write a review on them. I DO NOT RECOMMEND that place. Consider them lucky. Mama’s on the other hand has good sauce. Enough spices were added to break down the acidity in the tomatoes. There wasn’t too much of one spice or not enough of another spice. Their sauce had an equal balance to it which made the sub that more pleasurable. Too me, this sub did not have extra cheese on it. Does it look like it to YOU? If this was extra cheese, I’d hate to see what normal is. I grabbed the first half and noticed that the meatball was cut. That made me smile as I took my first bite. Mmmmm very good as I closed my eyes to enjoy what I thought may be the best meatball sub yet, BUT I was quickly irritated because halfway through the first half of sandwich, the meatballs were left whole. I picked up the second half and what do ya know. Every meatball on this half was whole. I couldn’t believe it. At first glance, it seemed as if this sub and fries were prepared with love & affection, but that was not the case. Anyway, I ate the rest of the sub and enjoyed it even though my meatballs “Pause” weren’t cut. Overall, it still was one of the best I’ve ever had. Is it the best meatball sub in Reading, Pa? That remains to be seen. I have 2 more reviews out of 10 to go to find out who has the best meatball sub in Reading, Pa. Until then, my name BigDaveIsFat says it all. “Get...
Read moreThe food tasted undercooked and the slices were given to us without been heated. The pizzas slices were served cold. My family and I received bad service from Litzy. As I was placing my order her and her co worker decided to entertain another customer who interrupted me. They decided to talk over me and yell as if they were in a baseball field. I would not be returning and do not recommend.
Update: This occured on Wednesday 11/20/2024. I believe that a review can be done at any time and moment. Since it is more important to find out if I have the correct employee, the 3 giveaway were name chain, the receipt with her name and when they were playing with the food her fellow male co worker called her by her name LITZY. The service was bad from the moment I stepped foot inside the establishment and received our food. I received the fries cold wit black stuff on it. She and her female coworker got bother l request to be switched to fresh ones. The pizzas would had send things off the roof for them. Just an FYI Litzy had a black shirt, the co worker had white and the other co worker had a...
Read moreMama's is a staple here in Berks County. If you are ordering Dominos or Papa John's in the Reading area, you are doing it wrong.
I have visited and ordered from many locations but this one is near where I used to work and I have been inside for lunch a handful of times. It is usually pretty crowded during lunchtime and they have fresh slices coming out of the oven all day.
My personal favorite pie is the Stuffed Buffalo Chicken, which weighs about 25lbs in total. However, they are always introducing new specials and will always have something new for you to try. Their Boardwalk Pizza and Big Mac Pizza were two of my favorite.
PRO TIP: It's hard to eat healthy here but I managed to find an option. Order the Veggie Sandwich with NO BREAD and get them to add chicken then heat it up in the oven for a few minutes. I have gotten this multiple times (no olives or mushrooms) and it is really good.
If you live here and have never tried Mama's, you are missing out. Go!...
