I ordered steak, with an asparagus side dish, and a couple of bottled beers. My experience was mostly good.
First, the good stuff...the staff was friendly, polite, attentive, and knowledgeable about their menu. The meat was of an excellent quality, nice lean cut, and cooked to a perfect medium (which is what I ordered). The restaurant has a large, island bar, with a generous quantity of comfortable seats and decent spacing between them. It creates a convivial atmosphere with plenty of opportunity for people watching. It also features a large TV on the short side of the rectangular bar near the entry way. The lighting is elegant and nicely decorative.
Now, the not so great...the room includes a western exposure without any window treatment. At sunset/dinner time, the sun is blinding and a bit unpleasant. These windows would benefit greatly from either tinting or curtains.
The steak, while well-cooked on the interior, was a bit over-charred on the exterior. Now, to be clear, I enjoy (and expect) a bit of char from the grill. It enhances the flavor. However, this was a bit too much of a good thing.
Also, I enjoy some pepper with my asparagus. I requested a pepper mill. I was surprised to find they had none. Even worse, they didn't have a basic pepper shaker.. I expected better.
With my meal, I prefer draft beer. I was surprised that the restaurant lacks a draft system. It also has a somewhat limited bottle selection.
The main room is a basic rectangular layout. With no acoustic tiles or wall coverings, the flat walls acts as a bit of an echo chamber. The room can get a bit loud, when busy.
I was sitting on the long side of the bar, on the end furthest from the entry, facing away from the front windows. Absent any bottle display or TVs, the view from those seats is a bit bland and uninteresting.
Overall, at these somewhat higher prices, I was hoping for a bit better experience.
However, in fairness, I was visiting during their first week of operation. Many of the issues I mention are easily fixed. Hopefully, some of them are simply the result of opening week jitters.
This restaurant shows a lot of promise, and I did enjoy myself, which is why I gave an overall high rating. I'll definitely give it another try in a few months and update my review if things improve.
Finally, be aware that parking is a bit limited, but that's a common problem for all of the businesses in the...
Read moreMy husband and I love a good steak house, but I had become allergic to wheat, so finding an enjoyable dining experience that lives up to memories of days when I could eat anything I liked is a “holy grail endeavor”. Post 1917 has met that challenge and surpassed every expectation. The tuna tartare was a stack of luscious tuna, avocado and mango with slivered radish in a light miso reduction – with gluten-free crostini! It was delicious! The blue cheese lettuce wedge was a step up on the basic boring wedge salad, using bibb lettuce (instead of iceberg) with slivered red onion, a thick slice of bacon, and herb marinated cherry tomatoes under a light blue cheese vinaigrette (instead of heavy dressing). Superb! The wet-aged bone-in NY Strip 20 oz steak was seasoned and cooked to a perfect temp throughout. We opted for the Oscar enhancement – a delight of balanced bearnaise sauce with an abundance of lump crab meat. Enough Oscar for every bite of steak! All on top of roasted asparagus spears. Yum! We opted for the mashed potatoes side which was creamy and perfect – no added garlic, thank goodness, to interfere with the flavors of our main. Finally, dessert was a gluten-free tiramisu – Can You Believe It?!? I haven’t had tiramisu in all the years since my allergy was diagnosed! Amazing cappuccino completed the meal. With an excellent cocktail and wine list – we cannot wait to return for another amazing meal. And the prices were absolutely reasonable for the quality and quantity. Let us not forget to mention the staff – they were supportive of each other and each table, discrete and prompt. Our main waitperson, Sebastian, gave us excellent suggestions and took care to assure our evening was as special as it could be. We highly...
Read moreWe had reservations for 6pm Saturday night for 5 adults 2 children. Our waiter had zero personality, looked and acted like he couldn't be bothered. The place was jam packed and very loud. Other tables also had children. When we looked at our menus we asked waiter if there was a kids menu and we were told no as he walked away. That's fine if restaurants don't have kids menus but a steak house should add cheeseburger to the menu for this reason. We ordered our apps and meals together which is what we were told they do, which we are fine with that as long as they space it out, which they did. My wife and I shared the bone in rib eye steak and we were sitting across from each other. So I made a point of telling the waiter it's was being split and who was splitting it. For apps we got the burrata special, tuna tartare and caesar salad. All were good and the tuna tartare was my fav. When our meals came out the bone in rib eye wasn't split they just put the steak in front of my wife and a empty plate in front of me. I think steak houses should split the steak for you but that's my opinion. They didn't have a ton of sides like other steakhouses but we got the Brussel sprouts, truffle fries, carrots and potatoes. Everything was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly. The desserts were cheesecake and snickerdoodle which was very good. The only thing lacking was the waiter. He never cracked a smile and he never made eye contact with any of us at the table. I hate bad service. There are a ton of steakhouses to go to where the food and service is top of the line. Those are the ones that get repeated I will not be repeating this place. The 3 star I'm giving them is really based solely on the service or...
