My husband and I were initially enthusiastic about the opening of a new bakery and café in the neighborhood; however, our experience was disappointing.
The service was exceedingly slow, with only one person taking orders, one at the register, and another in the back. I had hoped that the long wait would be justified, but unfortunately, it was not.
We ordered two pastries and two Americano coffees. The coffee was awfulâcertainly not up to par with what one might expect from a gas station. Given its proximity to Black River and just down the road from Goods Days CafĂ©, I anticipated much better quality.
The Seashell pastry contained merely half a teaspoon of vanilla cream, while the sugar cake was mediocre at best. One can find superior pastries at both Black River and Goods Days Café.
The atmosphere also felt disjointed. The tables in the front occupied an excessive amount of space, making it challenging to navigate to the counter. The back area was acceptable but felt disconnected from the front.
The staff in the front could have benefited with assistance from the person in the back, who occasionally emerged with a few empanadas. It was puzzling that he did not help expedite the service.
We returned the following day in hopes of giving it another chance. Unfortunately, this too was disappointing; There were only 3 people in the store and again the wait was exceedingly too long. The pastry, allegedly a Napoleon, lacked sufficient cream and tasted predominantly like bread.
Regrettably, we will not be returning...
Read moreDelicious, authentic Portuguese pastries, food, and drinks. The ambiance is great! Very inviting. The staff and owners are super personable and kind. Beautiful decor. Love having a Portuguese Café so close to home considering we are close to an hour from Ironbound Newark and a ~7hr flight away from Portugal ;). 5/5 stars! Definitely recommend! My boys were in heaven today with their Ucal Portuguese imported chocolate milks and tosta mistas!
Wishing the owners good fortune and the best of luck!
P.S. I wanted to take pictures of the food and drinks before we touched them to show how great everything looked but my family of 5 devoured everything! Great job Flavors of...
Read moreMy husband and I alone with a few other family members were so excited when we heard about a Portugese bakery opening up in the area. We visited today and absolutely loved it! We got a tosta mista, toasted bread with butter, a few lattes, and a few pastries to go. The owners were very friendly and we loved that we could we bond over our Portuguese nationalities and love for our food. They also sell a few Portuguese items that are difficult to find unless you drive to Newark which is over 45 minutes from where we live. The decor is spot on with a cool lounge area in the back. We will definitely be...
